Home, community, hospital

Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust offers a range of fantastic opportunities to grow your career across both hospital and community settings in south London. Whether you're looking to build new skills or take your experience to the next level, we are uniquely placed to provide the right environment to support your professional development. With colleagues working in people’s homes, in community clinics, and in our two hospitals, we have an outstanding breadth of knowledge and experience to draw from.

Our commitment to exceptional care is reflected in being the first trust of our kind in London to achieve an ‘Outstanding’ rating from the CQC for both overall quality and leadership. We exist to provide the best possible care for our patients and we do that by giving our colleagues what they need to be their best at work. We have won numerous awards from the HSJ and Nursing Times for the way we support our colleagues across all our services.

We are proud to be recognised for our outstanding cancer care, children's services, pioneering surgical teams, and exceptional rehabilitation services. Our maternity services have been rated the "Best in London" by women surveyed by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), with parents travelling to Kingston to take advantage of our considerable experience and expertise.

Our Trust values

These words are important reminders, but it’s our behaviours that tell people who we are. We expect all colleagues to bring our values to life in their work.

  • Compassionate: We provide care with kindness, understanding, and empathy for all.
  • Inclusive: We embrace diversity and respect the unique contributions of every individual.
  • Collaborative: We foster teamwork across all levels, working together and with our partners to deliver the best outcomes.
  • Inspiring: We are committed to continuous improvement and excellence in patient care, staff development, and innovation.

Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for junior (Band 5) and senior midwives (Band 6) to join our Maternity Team at Kingston and Richmond Hospital Foundation Trust.

Kingston Maternity is a popular service with approximately 5000 births per annum.  The National Maternity Survey 2022 rated Kingston as one of the top 5 best performing maternity services within London.  The Care Quality Commission rated Kingston Hospital’s Maternity Service as ‘good’ in December 2022 and the Trust ‘outstanding’ in 2019, with staff positive about the hospital and the services they were able to offer women and their families.

Band 5 Midwives

Kingston Maternity service has an outstanding and supportive preceptorship programme.  There is a dynamic and experienced practice development team who are readily available to help and support you during your clinical shifts and in your professional development.  The feedback from newly qualified midwives is that the whole team is supportive with visible and accessible team leaders, professional midwifery advocates, core midwives, and ensure consolidation of your learning.  When you have completed your preceptorship, you will have access to the post preceptorship programme to support your transition from a band 5 to a band 6 midwife which is tailored to your individual needs.

If you are a passionate midwife with excellent communication skills and a drive to provide high quality care to women please apply to join our multi professional maternity team.

Main duties of the job

Kingston Maternity Services remain committed to implementing the recommendations of The National Maternity Review - Better Births: Improving outcomes of maternity services in England. Continuity of Carer remains an important evidence-based way of improving outcomes and experience for women and birthing people using our services.  We are continuing to role out continuity of carer models by implementing 10 geographical community-based teams.  We currently have 35% of women booked on Continuity of Carer pathways and aim for this to increase in the next year.  Each team will provide an integrated model of continuity achieved through midwives working both in the hospital and community settings. This will enable midwives to be highly skilled in all areas of midwifery practice.  Full orientation and support will be provided, and midwives will work the majority of their time in the hospital setting with some supported community shifts.

Kingston is proud of its strong multi-disciplinary (MDT) culture. We provide a well evaluated, in-house MDT programme and staff have the opportunity to attend external study days or enrol for academic modules at our local higher education institutes.

If you are a passionate midwife with excellent communication skills and a drive to provide high quality care to women please apply to join our multi professional maternity team.

Please note: Interviews will be held on 20-Dec-2024
