Job overview

  • The aim of this role is to build on the current practice of achieving healthy birth outcomes for babies who are born at Kingston Maternity Unit.
  • We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Midwife with strong clinical leadership and facilitation skills, who will work as, part of a multi-disciplinary fetal monitoring team, leading on improving the standard of risk assessment and fetal monitoring in line with element 4 of the Saving Babies' Lives 3 Care Bundle.

Main duties of the job

  • The postholder will be a highly visible champion for safe and effective fetal heart rate interpretation through demonstration of expert clinical knowledge and practice. Education and training of maternity staff is a fundamental element of this post
  • The role will support embedding our physiological approach to fetal monitoring applied to intelligent intermittent auscultation, cardiotocograph and Fetal ECG (STAN monitoring)
  • There will be a strong focus on workplace learning through supporting the multi-professional team to ensure they can accurately and confidently interpret fetal monitoring. This workplace-based learning would take place in all clinical settings
  • The role will involve working with the education lead for maternity to embed the knowledge and skills staff gain from our comprehensive fetal monitoring course and competency framework, into the workplace.
  • The post holder will lead and facilitate a programme aimed at equipping midwives and obstetricians to increase their knowledge and competence in identifying fetal well-being, potential fetal compromise and actual fetal compromise in all clinical settings and improve clinical decision making.
  • You will be joining a well-established team dedicated to the ongoing promotion of women centred personalised care in line with Better Births.

Education and qualifcations

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Degree level or equivalent experience
  • Mentorship qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Masters degree, or evidence of working towards
  • Evidence of physiological CTG interpretation masterclass
  • NLS

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of Communicating effectively with women, staff and other agencies
  • Experience in all areas of midwifery with emphasis on recent intrapartum work
  • Ability to facilitate effective team working
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrate an ability to apply research to practice and to support changes in practice as a result of clinical audit

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet deadlines
  • Effective time management for self and others
  • Demonstratable leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage change.
  • High level of knowledge of interpretation of physiological CTG interpretation in all clinical settings
