The CNWL Temporary Staffing Service offers flexible working patterns which supports you and the Trust, and can also provide frequent work for those with regular availability.

 

Band 5 nurses work closely with the people who use our services, their families, friends and carers and play an important contribution in how people experience our services. Band 5 nurses are expected to be kind and responsive but professional and informative and contribute to the quality of the services we provide by: 

 

       keeping the people who using our services as safe as possible through the use of sound clinical skills and effective risk assessments 

 

       ensuring the best possible clinical outcomes by using up-to-date skills and adhering to evidence based policies and procedures 

 

       ensuring the people using our services have a good experience by respecting, empowering and working in partnership with people throughout the care planning process

We believe that the best health care is delivered by multi-disciplinary teams working well together and in partnership with other teams and services to provide seamless care.

Main duties of the job

       Using their clinical judgement and risk assessments to keep the people using our services as safe as possible 

 

       Safeguarding people by recognising and responding when an adult or child might be at risk from abuse but also recognising their own limits and asking for help and escalate concerns when necessary 

 

       Escalating safety concerns and by doing so acting as effective advocates for those who use our services 

 

       Being open and transparent about their own practice 

       Supervising the work of others

       Reflecting on everyday practice to identify areas where improvements in safety or quality can be made 

 

       Working with others to create a culture of continuous improvement 

       Maintaining accurate, legible, comprehensive records 

       Maintaining compliance with their mandatory training requirements. The NMC plays an important role in safeguarding the public by regulating the work of nurses and all nurses, including Band 5 nurses, are expected to register with the NMC each year and adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct. Clinical Outcomes Band 5 nurses contribute to the effectiveness of services by: 

       Providing skilled, evidence-based nursing care which adheres to agreed policies and procedures Working with patients and families in all stages of the care planning process including assessing risks and needs 

       Acting as patient advocates in the multi-disciplinary team and overseeing the work of others to ensure that they are also responding to the needs of patients and providing clinically effective care 

       Working as autonomous practitioners and taking responsibility for the care they give to patients but within their own limits of competency and confidence

What Happens Next?

The registration process will include an interview and you will be required to visit one of our nearby sites to verify your identity in person. Depending on your role, you may also be asked to complete some basic tests. The process is as follows:

  1. Complete the online TRAC application form
  2. Our recruitment team will invite you to interview
  3. Complete pre-employment checks and online mandatory training
  4. You will be set up on Bank and be ready to work

EDUCATION and QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse RMN
Desirable criteria
  • Mentorship or equivalent.
  • To have completed preceptorship programme.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care & act accordingly if untoward changes occur.
  • Keeping accurate records.
  • Knowledge of medication rounds and the safe administration of drugs.
  • Practical experience of providing high quality care and exceeding expectations.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in Acute Mental Health.
  • Experience of facilitating group work.
  • Experience of managing other staff

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Essential criteria
  • Able to build constructive relationships with warmth and empathy using good communication skills (colleagues and service users).
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Use of initiative under minimal supervision.
  • To have an understanding of the needs of people with mental health problems
  • Able to provide supervision & support to junior staff & students.
  • Ability to prioritise workload.
  • To have an understanding of implementing person centred care
  • To be able to participate in and provide management and clinical supervision
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in taking charge of a ward.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

Essential criteria
  • Up to date knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 and amendments.
  • Knowledge of the NMC code of conduct.
  • A working knowledge of the Care Programme Approach Framework.
  • Knowledge of new developments in nursing.
  • A working knowledge of Risk assessment and management.
  • Current developments in mental health care and nursing practice.
  • Ability to treat service users with respect & dignity at all times, adopting a culturally sensitive approach, which considers the needs of the whole person.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Understanding of clinical governance and how this impacts on practice

  • Prepared to work flexible shifts.
