Job overview
An opportunity has arisen to join our well established team.
The post holder will be an integral part of the Antenatal screening and fetal medicine team and work alongside the lead midwives of all 6 screening programmes and fetal medicine clinic. They will act as deputy screening coordinator in their absence.
Main duties of the job
- To support women throughout their journey within the Antenatal screening service.
- To support junior midwifery, medical and support staff in caring for families throughout the service.
- Work autonomously and with the Multidisciplinary team to deliver high standards of individualised evidence based care to women/people in pregnancy and their families.
- Promote and empower personalisation and choice of care within the remits of Antenatal screen

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Support comprehensive administrative systems that ensure all women are offered appropriate screening and receive results within the relevant timeframe.
- Be responsible for the collection, testing and documentation of specimens/results.
- Deliver high risk results (FASP, SCT & ID programme) to patients, offer counselling and referral as appropriate. Be the lead professional for partner testing for at risk couples Sickle cell and Thalassaemia.
- Provide compassionate and non-judgemental counselling.
- Explanation of procedures and obtaining consent for procedures.
- Interpreting and explaining screening results, diagnostic results and Termination of Pregnancy (TOP) procedure.
- Breaking bad news.
- Make referrals to FMU for women with high risk screening results and/or previous fetal abnormality and at Drs request
- Organize TOP for patients with poor outcomes To provide support to couples following TOP.
- Maintain an excel spread sheet that will provide data on all antenatal referrals to Fetal Medicine UnitLiaise with ultrasound department re high risk pregnancies
- Act as deputy for Antenatal and Newborn Screening Coordinator and Infectious Diseases Midwife.
- Participate in maintaining the failsafe system across all screening programmes.
- Maintain system for delivering and recording low risk results to patients.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- Registered Midwife
- Midwifery diploma/ degree or degree in related subject/Demonstrable experience
- Mentorship in practice or 997 or equivalent
- Evidence of Continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
- Experience and participation in research and audit and dissemination of findings
Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable experience in working in all areas of midwifery
- Communication skills that enable parents to make informed choices when faced with high risk results and diagnoses of abnormality
- Experience in dealing with loss and bereavement
- Experience in breaking bad news
Desirable criteria
- IT skills including all Microsoft packages
