Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Working relationships and communication requirements

Reporting to the Ealing Clinical Theatre Manager, responsible for the professional development of anaesthetic nurses and ODPs in theatres across the Trust.
Build and maintain professional relationships across the organisation and the wider learning community to facilitate practice development for theatre RN/ODP staff.
Develop strong, effective professional relationship with other specialty Lead Practitioners, scrub and anaesthetic practitioners and theatre teams to inform and guide the practice development needs of the department.
Contribute to collaborative working between the Trust and external education providers/ institutions in a professional manner.
Work as part of the Theatres Clinical Practice Educator Team and provide support to all learners in their absence.
Receive or present highly complex, sensitive, or contentious information to a group if required.
Provide support to fellow practice educators, assessors, and supervisors in managing complex student/ learning requirement.
Use motivational and negotiating skill to actively promote development in practice based on guidelines or recent research findings.

Planning and Organisation Responsibilities

Organise inter-professional training and development opportunities in practice for learners, practice supervisors and assessors within the organisation
Provide lectures, facilitation, coaching, supervision and shadowing opportunities to a group/ individual to support their learning and development
Collate, analyse and triangulate data that supports the quality of learning environments, capacity and utilisation of placement opportunities
Plan and maintain an accurate master placement rotation plan for all theatre competency trainees, students and collate placement for other learners in theatres.

Every three minutes someone in the UK develops dementia: a progressive and complex condition that can be devastating for the whole family. One in two of us will be affected by dementia in our lifetime – either by caring for someone with the condition, developing it ourselves, or both.

Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nursing charity that is there for the whole family. Our specialist nurses, known as Admiral Nurses, provide free, expert advice, support and understanding to help families care for their loved one. Every day, Admiral Nurses help families up and down the country to have the best life possible, for as long as possible.

Purpose of the job/about the role

Dementia UK has entered into an exciting three-year corporate partnership with a national partner. As a key component of this initiative, we will establish face-to-face Admiral Nurse clinics across the UK. This new team will bring Admiral Nursing to high street locations across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

As part of the national Clinics Programme Team, you will provide in-person biopsychosocial support and advice, sharing your specialist dementia nursing expertise to help families manage the complexities of the condition. Your focus will be on supporting family carers, people affected by dementia, and professionals who require specialist dementia guidance in areas of the UK where Admiral Nurse services are currently unavailable, bringing a much-needed service directly to local communities. Throughout your work, you will consistently promote Admiral Nursing and a family-centred approach to dementia care.

You will receive full support with your continuous professional development from the Admiral Nurse Academy.

As this unique nursing role offers you the opportunity to travel across the country, and will include overnight stays, flexibility is essential. When not delivering face-to-face clinics, you will provide support on our Helpline, working from home.

Admiral Nurse – Delivered Services

Join our Delivered Services team as an Admiral Nurse and bring your specialist dementia nursing expertise to support family carers, people affected by dementia, and professionals who require specialist advice. You’ll be a key member of our team, providing biopsychosocial support through our National Dementia Helpline and Virtual Clinic appointments.

In addition to your core responsibilities, you’ll have the opportunity to lead and support other clinical projects across the charity, benefit from monthly clinical supervision, and participate in a range of learning opportunities to support your ongoing professional development.

As an Admiral Nurse, you’ll be responsible for providing nursing support and expertise, offering practical guidance to colleagues, the general public, those with dementia, and others in supporting family and relationship-centered approaches to dementia care. You’ll also lead and coordinate shifts as required, providing clinical supervision to others and assist with the development, evaluation, audit of the service, carer and supporters in different settings.

To be successful in this position, you’ll need to be an active Registered Nurse on the NMC register with a post-registration qualification or training in dementia care or a relevant subject. You will have significant experience of practicing as an Admiral Nurse or dementia specialist nurse and previously worked with people who have dementia and their family, carer and supporters in different settings.

Strong communication skills are essential, as is a proven track record of providing high standards of clinical leadership and specialist nursing support. You should be adept at providing clinical advice, clinical supervision, and advocating for family carers.
