Job overview

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated nurse to come and join our  Oncology ward team. 11 East ward cares for patients with range of cancers, including neuro-endocrine, who are receiving radioactive isotopes, SACT, symptom management and supportive therapies and end of life care. 

Main duties of the job

You will support the ward manager to lead the team, manage the budget, motivate staff, problem solve, role model and implement change as necessary. You will ensure the delivery of high quality care and safety and it is preferred that you have the competence for administering cytotoxic chemotherapy or be willing to undergo training to be competent with SACT in 6 months.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities


The ability to communicate effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team is essential. Cancer experience is essential, it is preferred that you have the ENB 998 or mentor-ship course and ideally you will be educated to degree level or working towards it. You will be supported in this post by the Ward sister, CPE, Team and Matron for specialist services.

  • 1st level registration
  • Evidence of level 5 or 6 study within oncology
  • Mentorship or equivalent experience with students

  • Educated to degree level
  • Knowledge of cytotoxic chemotherapy

Experience

  • Significant post registration experience
  • Significant experience of oncology nursing
  • Experience of working with palliative care patients
  • Experience of working with radiotherapy patients

Skills & Aptitudes

  • Ability to manage acutely ill patients
  • Ability to negotiate and proven communication skills
  • Knowledge of current advances in cancer management
Desirable criteria
  • Chemotherapy trained

  • Knowledge of research and audit methodology to degree level
