10 Hammersmith Broadway is one of the UK’s busiest Sexual Health and HIV Service based in Hammersmith, West London.

We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated and empathetic Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our team who has a passion for the specialty. We are particularly interested in talking to Nurses who have relevant experience in Sexual Health or who are keen and interested in the field.

10 Hammersmith Broadway provides full sexual health care to an abundance of patients every day and therefore we are looking for applicants who are driven, efficient and able to work at a fast pace whilst maintaining amazing customer service and professionalism. 10 Hammersmith Broadway is well respected and trusted by our patients and we are keen to work with Nurses who share our commitment to the care we provide.

This Staff Nurse post includes seeing asymptomatic, symptomatic patients, and providing treatments. We would expect the Band 5 Staff Nurse to also take on in house training as needed and be motivated to advance their skill set while being a team player to all members of the Multi-disciplinary Team.

Main duties of the job

  • To maintain and deliver a high standard of nursing care, demonstrating a professional and ethical responsibility..
  • To build on clinical experience, leadership and teaching skills through nursing practice.
  • To demonstrate a commitment to the mentorship of pre and post registration learners.
  • To be involved in the development and implementation of outreach work and other service developments.
  • To act as a coordinator of the clinic in the absence of a senior member of the nursing team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To assess individual patient needs and requirements without supervision
  • To plan, implement, and evaluate relevant programmes of care for individual patients within the clinic’s guidelines
  • To be competent in the following, with appropriate training:
  • Venepuncture
  • The taking of male and female genital swabs
  • Microscopy and the making of provisional
  • STI diagnoses
  • All forms of HPV treatment.
  • Point of care testing
  • Asymptomatic screening
  • Processing of samples
  • To facilitate effective communication with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure appropriate nursing input into patient care discussions
  • To take an active part in the development and implementation of clinical audit and research
  • To be competent to supply and administer medications under a Patient Group Direction

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • Evidence of recent continuing professional development
  • Post Reg experience within Sexual Health or Acute care setting
Desirable criteria
  • Counselling course/ study days
  • Teaching course
  • Patient Assessment
  • Worked with PGDs
  • Compliant with Information Governance

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Must be able to demonstrate post registration experience in Sexual Health/Acute Care
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of health promotion
  • Experience of shift coordination
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of case load management
  • Experience of nurse-led clinics
  • Experience of 1-2-1 patient assessment and treatment
  • Venepuncture

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good written/oral communication
  • Computer literate
  • Able to manage patients with culturally, sexuality and gender sensitive issues
  • Able to support patients receiving bad news Knowledge and understanding of confidentiality

  • Knowledge of sexual health infections and treatments
