Job overview

We are currently looking for dynamic and motivated experienced Band 5 Nurses to join our friendly and dedicated team of nurses on Upton Park our acute inpatient respiratory ward

The Division of Medicine hosts 8 inpatient wards and has currently entered an exciting era.

 

Upton Park is our brand new 26 Bedded Respiratory Unit and provides specialist respiratory care which includes acute Level 2 respiratory support (NIV,CPAP, HiFlow Oxygen) and management of acute tracheostomies. Our aim is to always provide compassionate, safe patient focused care.

The division is supported by a dedicated Band 7 Team, PDN team, 2 Matrons and 3 Senior Nurses.

You will be supported in your professional development by our dedicated team of PDN’s.  There are opportunities to develop specialist skills with both on the job training and external courses.As well as your professional development we also have a newly created Well-being space, outside areas including designated garden areas as well as fitness classes including a running group

 

Main duties of the job

  • The successful candidate will provide the highest standard of individualised and holistic patient care, in conjunction with the interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teams. The post holder will work within the NMC Code, trust policies, guidance, and procedures to ensure safe working practice.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • Degree or working towards it
  • Current NMC registration
Desirable criteria
  • Mentorship Course
  • Specialist courses relevant for clinical area e.g. respiratory course

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 2 Years Post registration experience in an Acute Setting
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working on a respiratory ward

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates an understanding of Clinical Governance
  • Understanding of Research and it’s application in practice
  • Knowledge of current and emerging NHS policies for nursing
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Resource management
  • Standard Setting and quality assurance

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Provide high quality evidenced based nursing care
  • Demonstrates the ability to identify own learning needs
  • Ability to prioritise clinical workload effectively
  • Ability to identify the deteriorating patient
  • Able to work within set time frames working to priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to give medications according to the Trusts medicines management policy
  • Can demonstrate an enthusiastic, approachable and friendly manner
  • The ability to communicate with patients in an empathetic manner regarding their treatment.
