We have an exciting opportunity to join our well established team as a Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children.

The post holder will provide leadership on Oxleas Think Family safeguarding strategy and workplan, promoting the safety and welfare of children, young people and adults at risk and contribute to development of relevant safeguarding policies, procedures and guidance.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide leadership on Oxleas Think Family safeguarding strategy and workplan, promoting the safety and welfare of children, young people and adults at risk and contribute to development of relevant safeguarding policies, procedures and guidance.

The post holder will fulfil the requirements of Named nurse for safeguarding children, with responsibility for co-ordinating the trust safeguarding children activity. The post holder will support Lead Safeguarding children specialist for Adult mental health in developing robust consistent safeguarding practice in line with best practice and statutory requirements.

The post holder will provide expert advice, supervision and support on safeguarding children matters, working together with key professionals and partner agencies.    

The post holder will actively contribute towards the quality and assurance agenda including training, audit, collection and analysis of relevant data.

The post holder will contribute to Safeguarding children practice reviews, Domestic homicide reviews, Safeguarding adult reviews, Learning reviews and Serious incident investigations.

The post holder will work in close partnership with external stakeholders towards ensuring effective safeguarding arrangements.

The post holder will lead and have line management responsibility for Specialist safeguarding nurses/ practitioners.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To provide clinical leadership and expert advice and support on safeguarding children to all Oxleas staff.
  • To ensure that staff are fully aware of their statutory responsibilities to safeguard children, young people and adults at risk.
  • To ensure the delivery of the safeguarding children service locally and assist the Head of Safeguarding to ensure provision across the trust.
  • To provide clinical leadership and line management to the Specialist safeguarding nurses/ practitioners/MASH Health Professionals.
  • To participate in the development and delivery safeguarding children training as per the Intercollegiate guidance (children and adult); and as part of the local safeguarding children partnership multi agency training programme.
  • To report any serious incidents with safeguarding children implications and to contribute specialist knowledge to the investigation of such incidents.
  • The post holder will work in close partnership with external stakeholders towards ensuring effective safeguarding arrangements.
  • To develop and undertake audit and review activity, ensuring that any recommendations and action plans are addressed.
