Job overview
Are you an experienced Registered Nurse with a passion for gynaecology and early pregnancy care? Do you have a CASE-accredited ultrasound qualification and want to play a key role in supporting women through complex early pregnancy and gynaecological conditions? At Croydon Health Services NHS Trust, we are looking for a highly skilled Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join our dedicated Early Pregnancy & Emergency Gynaecology Unit. If you have gynaecology and early pregnancy care experience but are not yet CASE-accredited we can offer you a training role where you can learn to scan alongside your role as a band 6 specialist nurse proceeding to band 7 when qualified. This is an exciting opportunity to work autonomously, leading and developing services, providing expert clinical assessment, ultrasound scanning, and compassionate patient care.
Main duties of the job
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will:
• Provide expert care for women experiencing complications in early pregnancy or acute gynaecological presentations.
• Perform and interpret ultrasound scans to support accurate diagnosis and care planning.
• Manage patient pathways to ensure timely access to investigations, results, and treatment plans.
• Deliver training and supervision, supporting nurses and doctors in developing ultrasound and clinical expertise.
• Work autonomously within local and national guidelines, leading service improvements in early pregnancy care.
• Offer emotional support, ensuring women and their families receive clear, compassionate information and counselling.

Education
Essential criteria
- Registered with NMC
- CASE Registered Sonographer
- Mentorship qualification or recognised equivalent, i.e. ENB 998
- Gynaecology course/Women’s health related subject or willing to undertake.
- Counselling course or willingness to undertake
Desirable criteria
- Experience in facilitating reflection and clinical supervision
- Ability to adapt to change within working situation
- Advanced Practice/Physical Assessment qualification
- Masters in Women's Health or working towards
Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive experience in Gynaecology at band 6
- Extensive experience in early pregnancy assessment including miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy care.
- Previous experience of managing an early pregnancy unit or equivalent service in women's health
- Evidence of adaptability to change
Desirable criteria
- Extended skills e.g. counselling
- Complaints Management
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Highly developed clinical skills
- CASE Registered
- Knowledge of developing clinical pathways
Desirable criteria
- Clinical Governance and Risk Management
