Occupational Health Screening Nurse

Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join the in-house occupational health team at The Royal Marsden Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is a nurse-led Occupational Health service with a sessional OH Physician. We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, and highly motivated nurse who will work with the team to support us in the delivery of high-quality Occupational Health can demonstrate relevant prior experience in similar roles. This is a part time maternity leave cover working three days per week the days are flexible but must include Friday for 12 months, starting in early April 2025. The successful candidate will work as part of a small team, supporting immunisations and health surveillance. Experience of NHS immunisations and vaccinations are desirable but not essential for this role, and therefore would suit someone looking to move into Occupational Health. You will be expected to demonstrate excellent communication skills and evidence-based decision making.
Main duties of the job
- To support the Occupational Health and Wellbeing Manager in the provision of a comprehensive and proactive Occupational Health and Wellbeing service to The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.
- To participate in the development and maintenance of a comprehensive Occupational Health and Wellbeing service for the Trust and other contracts as required.
- To promote a high standard of Occupational Health and Safety amongst staff in line with current legislation.

- Provide clinics for the immunisation of staff appropriate to their role.
- Provide appropriate advice and support to staff that sustain inoculation injuries involving human body fluids.
- Where appropriate, to provide support to the Occupational Health Department through health screening, health promotion, immunisations, blood screening etc.
- Conduct the staff health surveillance programmes in accordance with the legal requirements for Health & Safety at Work, the Health & Safety Executive Guidance and COSHH Standards.
- To contribute to the development of policies and procedures appropriate to the needs of the Service.
- To work within the NMC directive at all times i.e. The Code, Record Keeping, Scope of Professional Practice, and Administration of Medicines.
- To maintain an effective, secure and confidential Occupational Health record system in accordance with the requirements of the Data Protection Act.
- To undertake health screening as required by the department.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registration with NMC Part 1
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- Evidence of up-to-date knowledge base of professional and specialist issues
- Sound educational background including a good standard of numeracy and written English
Desirable criteria
- Diploma or Degree level study (or equivalent) in Occupation Health
Experience
Essential criteria
- Competent in venepuncture
- Competent in flu vaccination
- Ability to work independently and within a team framework
- Ability to prioritise and manage time effectively Good interpersonal and communication skills, written and oral

- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications including word processing and email
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in Occupational Health Services within the NHS
- Competent in providing all NHS vaccinations and blood tests including Mantoux/BCG
