We have been working together in a Partnership between Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust and Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust for some time, with a single Chair and Chief Executive since 2021 and single Executive Team since 2022. We launched our North London Mental Health Partnership Strategy in May 2023 and in July 2023 our Boards agreed that coming together to create one new Trust is best for our service users, our staff and our local communities. Subject to final approvals, we will be formally established as one new Trust on 1 October 2024.

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experience CAMHS Non-Medical Prescriber to join Barnet CAMHS. The candidate will be supported in prescribing by the team consultant psychiatrists and receive other clinical support by other clinicians within the Multidisciplinary Team. This post is based in a supportive multi-disciplinary team of other CAMHS professionals and will develop sound working relationships with other professionals.

Barnet CAMHS community team is supportive and welcoming and we encourage applications from mental health professionals, registered as a NMC independent prescriber with skill engaging young people and their families in treatment/therapy, as the work will assess and treat a diverse range of conditions including neurodevelopmental conditions.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide referral screening, assessments and deliver therapeutic sessions and psychopharmacological treatment and interventions for a broad range of mental health conditions meeting specialist CAMHS criteria. Primarily, the prescriber will treat neurodevelopmental disorders, such as ADHD. The applicant will therefore need past experience and knowledge of treating as an independent prescriber for this client group.

As an experienced non-medical prescriber, the post holder will support less experienced and trainee non-medical prescribers.

The role is mainly clinic-based and will focus on the delivery of timely, high-quality interventions.  This position provides opportunities to work with and develop links with health and social care as part of the iTHRIVE Framework to delivery of care for young people. The role will appeal to a skilled CAMHS clinician with UK Professional registration who enjoys specialist work in a dynamic CAMHS service.

Regular clinical supervision will be provided, exploring development opportunities for the post holder. We will support individuals to develop specialist skills and pursue specific areas of interest or service development projects where appropriate. We also hold regular CPD and service development days across the whole service

Working for our organisation

The partnership between Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust (BEH) and Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust (C&I) is going from strength to strength since it was originally established in 2021 forming the North London Mental Health Partnership.

BEH manages the renowned North London Forensic Services (NLFS) which is the lead provider of forensic mental health services; that managed the devolved New Models of care budget, it delivers MH care across some of the prisons, and provides MH services as HM Young Offenders Institutions in Aylesbury.
