We are seeking an enthusiastic mental health nurse to join our dedicated multi-disciplinary Community Eating Disorder Team . North East London NHS Foundation Trust Community Eating Disorder service offers the latest in evidence based NICE compliant psychological interventions to clients and their families with an Eating Disorder. Unlike many other mental health services we offer specialist assessment and treatment across the life span from age 8yrs with no upper age limit. The team’s multi-disciplinary approach to the assessment and treatment of individuals with an eating disorder is a real strength. The post holder will primarily work with Adults however opportunities will be available to work across the lifespan.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

Perform and interpret specific investigations, such as blood pressure and ECGs, in order to manage the patient’s clinical risk effectively.

Ensure all patients have individualised care plans and that these are reviewed at appropriate intervals.

Develop clinical practice and procedures that best support the well being of adults with eating disorders in the community

Work with colleagues to ensure that specialist, professional, skilled clinical care is provided for patients and that this is adapted to meet their individual needs.

The post holder will facilitate the patient’s understanding of results of investigations such as blood tests, ECGs and bone density scans.

Provide emotional and psychological support to the patient and family and be aware of the social needs, referring them to appropriate bodies.

Advise patients and their families and carers on aspects of care, which they may safely undertake in liaison with the team.

Implement and monitor action plans relating to team and corporate objectives, the modernisation agenda and clinical governance.

Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent and have capacity to work within legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment via organisational policy.

COVID-19 Vaccination

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

 

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

 

High Cost Area Supplement – London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436 per annum pro rata).

Qualifications

  • NVQ level 2 or equivalent standard of literacy and numeracy
  • RMN, RGN, RNLD, OT or Social Work. Registration with relevant professional body
  • Teaching qualification or other specific job related post-registration qualification (eg Mentoring and Enabling Learning in Practice, ENB-998 or equivalent)
  • Evidence of CPD

Experience

  • Working with adults who have complex mental health needs
  • Working with adults dual diagnosis
  • Working in an acute environment
  • To have experience in working/liaising with multi-disciplinary teams, internal and external agencies in the provision of care
  • To have experience of assessing, planning and initiate care
  • Ability to work under pressure, quickly and effectively, making timely clinical decisions in conjunction with the MDT
  • Anility to work both independently and as part of the team

Knowledge

  • Understanding the Care Act and its application
  • Understanding of contemporary evidence based ‘best practice
  • Understanding of the mental capacity act

Skills

  • Robust assessment of mental health presentation and risk profiling
  • Ability to facilitate positive MDT working relationships across all service areas
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality where appropriate
  • Ability to work closely with the families, friends and significant others of service users in assessing need and planning intervention
  • Understanding of and commitment to the principles of equal opportunities in service delivery
  • Ability to formulate clear and concise clinical records and be able to disseminate information appropriately and to relevant agencies
