Band 6

Job overview

Ward 29 is a 25 bedded surgical ward that provides care for surgical patients following acute and emergency surgeries or requiring treatment. Its multi-surgical specialties consist of general surgery, colorectal, urology and orthopaedics.

The clinical sisters will be managerially and professionally responsible for the educational needs and clinical effectiveness/competencies for all the nurses on Ward 29 respectively.

As an integral member of the management team, you will report to and work closely alongside the ward manager, deputy manager and the matron.

You will be a clinical expert in respective specialties through extensive and recent clinical experience in specialties as the role is primarily clinical-based (minimum of two years post-registration). You will undertake clinical shifts in both days and nights in order to identify training needs and deliver bedside teaching while being a visible and accessible clinical role model.

Main duties of the job

You should have a recognised teaching qualification and experience in teaching a wide range of clinical staff and students in a variety of forums.

You should have experience of supervision, mentorship and a commitment to excellence in practice.

You will need to have excellent clinical skills and knowledge within urology, colorectal and general surgery.

You will be highly visible, work alongside the ward staff and assist ward managers in the smooth running of the ward through a culture of continuous improvement and staff development.

Working for our organisation

NLAG is part of one of the largest acute and community Group arrangements in the NHS, seeing well over one million patients every year and managing a budget of over £1.3 billion.

Made up of two Trusts - Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLAG) and Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (HUTH) - our Group has significant ambitions and is committed to delivering world-class hospital and community services for the 1.65 million people we serve.

Together we employ nearly 20,000 staff. Our five main hospital sites are Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, Scunthorpe General Hospital and Goole and District Hospital, for NLAG and Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital for HUTH.

As Teaching Hospitals working with the Hull York Medical School, we both lead and contribute to research in many areas - biomedical research, primary care, palliative medicine, cardiovascular and respiratory medicine, vascular surgery, cancer surgery and oncology.

We believe that by developing a diverse, inclusive, innovative, skilled and caring workforce, we can deliver excellent care to our patients and a great future for our employees, our Group and our community.

Should we receive a high volume of applications the advert may be closed earlier than stated.
