For all other Medical Workforce positions, the full-time entitlement commences from 27 days per annum.
  • Bank working: The chance to work extra hours at enhanced rates and we will pay you weekly too, ideal if your income needs a quick boost.

Are you motivated, enthusiastic and want to make a difference? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Band 6 Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse on Witham Ward/ RSU. 

Witham ward is an 18 bedded Respiratory ward, connected directly to the  Respiratory Support Unit (RSU), specialising in the care and treatment of  patients with acute respiratory conditions. We provide the highest quality of nursing care to both male and female patients, on emergency and planned admission pathways.

On Witham/ RSU, we care for patients in the acute stage of their admission through to discharge and manage conditions such as COPD exacerbations, lung cancers, type 2 respiratory failure and Non Invasive Ventilation, chest drains, tracheostomies, chest infections, severe sepsis as well as general medical care.

The ward is a busy, acute environment with a high turnover of patients, we therefore require experienced registrants who are committed to providing a high standard of individualised patient-centred nursing care, through effective assessment, planning and delivery to be part of our leadership team.

The successful applicant must be enthusiastic and motivated to working in a busy medical environment using their initiative. They should also have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be able to organise and prioritise workload, be a great team player and exhibit strong leadership skills. There are many opportunities within this role to further your own development with new skills.

Support, guidance and training will be given by the ward Sister and the Band 6 team to develop the skills required for this role.

Qualifications

  • Degree / diploma or an equivalent level of Knowledge and skill in medical nursing.

  • Intermediate Life Support (ILS)

Knowledge, skills, aptitudes

  • Able to demonstrate good leadership skills.
  • Evidence of assessing and supervising junior colleagues.
  • Clinically competent with extended skills, such as cannulation, venepuncture, ECG, male catheterization, blood gas interpretation, management of chest drains, tracheostomy and a willingness to undertake all roles.
  • Awareness and Knowledge of the dignity in care agenda.
  • Ability to evidence/demonstrate key values and behaviours in line with the Trust framework

Previous Experience
