Job overview

You will be a member of the Diagnostic Health Care team, providing support to patients accessing diagnostic services. You will work with radiographers and consultant radiologists to provide care in a busy diagnostic department.

A high standard of patient care skills are required along with an ability to be flexible and deal with challenging situations.

A helpful and pleasant demeanor is essential.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for maintaining the working environment within CT, giving direct clinical and clerical support to the Radiographers and Radiologists to enable the delivery of an efficient and effective service with a high standard of patient care.

The main requirements of the job will be working night shifts in the CT department, although occasionally you may be required to work a day shift to complete mandatory training and meetings with managers. You will be required to be available to work your hours over a 7 day period and be available to work weekends and bank holidays as the service is a 24 hours a day , 365 days of the year service.

You will be required to take responsibility for some administrative duties as well as patient care, and as such, good communication skills along with a polite telephone manner, computer and database skills is required. You will work under direct and indirect supervision and will be required to follow instructions.

The workload is varied and due to the nature of the work can be demanding, one minute you may be dealing with an elderly patient and the next a young child or a patient who has been in a car accident. The workload in CT can be unpredictable due to the nature of the service  and flexibility is an absolute must.

The ideal candidate would be competent in cannulation although training can be provided for the right candidate.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Holds NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Care
  • 12 months experience working at Level 3 NCQ/QCF in care
  • Understanding of Trust core values
  • Must be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of core trust values and be able to articulate in practice
  • Good communication skills
  • Understanding of the needs of patients in the Acute Care setting
  • Has an understanding of the need for confidentiality
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Punctual & Professional
  • Up to date mandatory training in fire, infection control, BLS and moving and handling
Desirable criteria
  • • IT skills
  • Confident people skills
  • Able to use Trust patient administration IT systems
  • Training in collecting blood

Occupational Experience

Essential criteria
  • 12 months experience of working at NVQ/QCF Level 2 in Care
