Job overview

North Lincolnshire Integrated Sexual Health (N-LiSH) services have an opportunity for a healthcare support worker to join their countywide team.  This post is based in Scunthorpe but there will be an expectation to support other clinics when service demands require. Travel time and expenses are supported. 

The role is varied and requires candidates to be non-judgemental and adhere to strict confidentiality policy.  Experience within healthcare including venepuncture skills is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided to the successful candidate. 

 

Main duties of the job

HCSW:

Sets up clinical rooms, chaperones specialist practitioners within clinical examinations and handles and processes samples.

Provides support on an ad hoc basis for reception and central booking line.

Undertakes stock control, ordering of sundries and stock taking duties.

Ensures all infection control policies are met with by ensuring cleaning duties and clinical waste duties are appropriately met.  

Will be taught microscopy skills to support in house diagnostic services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The HCSW will used evidence-based practice to help support and deliver a confidential, quality and cost-effective service in support of and under the direction of a registered professional.
They will carry out assigned tasks, appropriate to their role, experience and competence, including direct nursing care and administrative duties as delegated by the nurse in charge and as part of a wider LiSH team.
The HCSW will ensure that patients receive safe, individualised and effective care, accepting delegated responsibility appropriate to the role, experience and competency of the post holder.

  • Good standard of general education Willingness to undertake the skills for health key competences within an agreed time frame Minimum standards of literacy & numeracy
  • Customer service skills with experience of dealing with members of the public Can demonstrate attitude and aptitude appropriate to post Ability to relate previous experiences to role
  • Computer literacy at basic level. Has insight into need and circumstances of vulnerable people including the need for safeguarding. Willingness to undertake safeguarding supervision and training. Good communication skills , both verbal, written and electronic Ability to forge effective working relationships with both patients ,their relatives and colleagues
  • Commitment to work as a an integral part of a multi- disciplinary team Awareness of the effects of poor sexual heath has on the individual, their family and wider community Flexible approach to meet service need including ability to work flexible across a variety of shift patterns Team player with the ability to prioritises own workload in such a way that takes account of patient needs.
  • Ability to travel across the county to areas not covered by public transport to meet the needs of the service Awareness of strict confidentiality with sexual health Ability to adapt to changing demands of Sexual Health Service
Desirable criteria
  • Ability and willingness to work towards NVQ 2 in a health care or equivalent evidenced working experience
  • Experience of working in a caring environment and or a multi- disciplinary team Previous experience delivering care in a community setting or Experience of working in a sexual health environment
  • Knowledge of clinical procedures , observations and care Extended clinical skills eg venepuncture , Microscopy
