The Leicester Renal Unit are looking to recruit exceptional individuals to be part of a highly skilled and expanding team. If you are looking for an opportunity to join an expert team, with supportive leadership, learning and development opportunities please read on.
This is a very exciting time to join the Leicester renal dialysis team as we expand our vital services and look forward to moving to a brand new, state of the art dialysis unit situated in Wigston, an area in the south of the city with good transport links.
Previous experience in Renal/ Haemodialysis is desirable but not essential, as full in-house training and support will be given. The team you will be joining is dedicated to the training of both staff and patients providing excellent education opportunities and a shared-care ethos. There is a supportive leadership presence within the unit to help enable this.
The haemodialysis unit has an internal rotation operating on a shift pattern which includes Early (7am - 3pm) Mid (11am - 7pm) Late (3pm-11pm) Nocturnal (Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9pm - 8am) The unit is closed on Sundays, Christmas Day and New Years Day.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of evidenced-based nursing care to a group of patients.

Effective communication with a wide variety of patients requiring renal replacement therapy.

Assisting and contributing in the management and organisation of a haemodialysis unit / clinical area. Actively contribute to setting and maintaining high standards of quality nursing care.

Actively participate in the education, development and supervision of other staff members.

Act as a clinical and professional role model, assessing and supporting students and learners on placement within the clinical area.

Work collaboratively and co-operatively with the multi-disciplinary team to meet the needs of patients and their families.

Contribute to the shared care culture of the haemodialysis unit by encouraging and educating patients to actively participate in aspects of their care and treatment where possible.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Undertake the Trust Corporate and Directorate specific Induction and competency Programmes.
-
Ensure own compliance and compliance of others with regard to mandatory training and NMC Professional re-registration requirements. Responsible for maintaining up to date skills, knowledge and competence and awareness of professional issues.

Undertake specialist education training as required that will allow health care to be delivered to the user through new ways of working.Actively promote and participate in Clinical Supervision / Mentorship or equivalent support mechanisms.

Act as a preceptor to newly registered staff and on a regular basis mentor and assessor of student learners on clinical placement.

Take a lead responsibility for a specific function or area of knowledge/clinical skills within the team e.g. speciality focused link nurse, health promotion lead, student link nurse.

Accepts designated responsibilities of other team members and actively contributes to performance review and the appraisal and personal development planning (PDP) process within the Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF).

Ensure that the delivery of care to own patients and for all patients when in charge meet the standards determined by the Sister / Charge Nurse and the Standards for Better Health.

Adheres to Trust policies, procedures and clinical guidelines and ensures compliance of others.

Promote and practice the highest standards of prevention and control of infection at all times.

Continually monitor standards of nursing care and contribute to improvement of care, through benchmarking, audit and research.

Participate in and contribute to patient and public involvement activities.

Promote patient dignity, equality, diversity and rights.

Ensures self and all nursing staff practice at all times in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Conduct and raise any concerns with the Sister / Charge.

Responsible for the effective and efficient use of Clinical, physical and financial resources

Use health related information only for the purposes of what it is intended for and in accordance with the Data Protection act.

Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times and information relating to patient / users and personnel is used only in connection with authorised duties.

Essential criteria
- Demonstrates satisfactory clinical expertise for the grade applied for. Experience will be dependent on the post/ward requirements at the time of recruitment.
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in renal/ haemodialysis nursing
Training and qualifications
Essential criteria
- UK NMC registration- with NMC PIN
Desirable criteria
- Willingness to undertake new clinical practices, education and training that will enhance service delivery
