Staff Nurse

NHS AfC: Band 5

We are actively promoting flexible working options, helping you to manage a work / life balance

Job overview

Ward 43 at the Leicester Royal Infirmary site are 28 bedded wards providing high quality care to patients with a mixture of Gastroenterology needs.

We have Nutritional specialists including the Leicestershire Intestinal failure team (LIFTT), Hepatology and Luminal medical teams.  We care for patients with enteral and parental nutritional requirements, and work closely with the dietetic team. Moreover, there are opportunities to deliver post ascitic drain care.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of evidence-based nursing care for groups of patients.

  • Assist in and contribute to the management and organisation of a ward/clinical area.

  •  Actively contribute to setting and maintaining high standards of quality nursing care.

  •  Actively participate in the education, development and supervision of other staff members.

  •  Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families.

  • Act as a clinical and professional role model, mentoring, assessing and supporting students and learners on placement within the clinical area.

Working for our organisation

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:

  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

  • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
