NHS AfC: Band 6

We are actively promoting flexible working options, helping you to manage a work / life balance

Job overview

Are you an experienced Paediatric Critical Care Nurse seeking a new challenge? There is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated nurse to join our Children's Emergency Transport Service (CoMET) as part of a secondment opportunity.

CoMET is the supra-regional Paediatric Critical Care Transport Service hosted by The University Hospitals of Leicester, in partnership with Nottingham University Hospital which launched in March 2017. CoMET is responsible for covering the East Midlands, providing advice and support for our 11 referring centres. The team operates a 24 hour acute transport service 7 days a week and a repatriation service in daytime hours to help create patient flow in our critical care beds within the region.

CoMET is centralised Service based at Castle Donington alongside our neonatal, adult and ECMO transport colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to work as a member of the Paediatric Critical Care Transport Team, providing a high standard of clinical care and support to children and young people within the Region. This is an opportunity for the applicant to work with the transport team to cover maternity leave on a year secondment post.

The post holder will need to have team building skills and be able to demonstrate how they motivate and lead.  Evidence of clear effective communication skills and ability to work autonomously is essential. You will be required to work flexibly as a member of CoMET and with support of the Senior nurse team ensure that standards are maintained, evaluated, and where necessary improved. You will be expected to contribute and support the performance agendas.

The post holder must be a Registered Sick Children’s Nurse or Registered Nurse (Child Branch) with a recognised children’s critical care qualification and at least 2 years experience as a Band 5 Nurse in a children’s critical care area.  In addition they will need to hold a recognised teaching qualification.

Working for our organisation

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:

  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

  • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
