Job overview
We are looking for a hard working NMC Registered qualified nurse to deliver high quality care to our patients on Swinley Ward within the surgical directorate.
We are 26 bedded female Surgical Ward & Gynaecology Assessment Unit. Our surgical patients include urology, colorectal, breast, gynae and ENT however we also care for outlying medical and orthopaedic patients.
Swinley Ward is a fast paced ward with high acuity and a dedicated team of nurses that will support you into your new role. We offer training and development opportunity's for you to develop your skills.
Please note this vacancy may close early if there are a high volume of applicants.
This post is for 36 hours per week and is maternity leave cover. Please note that whilst this post is fixed term/secondment, it may become permanent in the future.
Main duties of the job
Under the supervision of the ward manger the nurse is responsible for the provision, organisation and direction of nursing care of the patients in his/her care. To communicate effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and high quality care is provided to all patients.

Planning and Organisational Duties
Accountable for nursing practice and takes every opportunity to sustain and improve his/her knowledge and professional competence.
Participates in the assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care relevant to patients within sphere of responsibility and under supervision.
To be sensitive to the needs of patients in relation to courtesy, privacy and dignity.
To be familiar and adhere to Trust and Divisional objectives, policies, guidelines and current legislation
To complete patient documentation and undertake record keeping in a timely manner, ensuring that all entries are accurate and legible and that information systems are maintained.
To provide information as required, including notification of adverse events and accidents to patients, staff and visitors.
Communications and Key Working Relationships
In conjunction with senior nursing staff and specialist nurses participate in the setting/monitoring and evaluation of standards of care to patients.
To communicate effectively with all members of multi-disciplinary team regarding patient care.
To assist with the investigation and timely resolution of complaints and PALS enquiries.

Essential criteria
- UK NMC Registered Nurse
- Recent evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
- Teaching and Assessing Course
- Degree /Diploma Studies
- Specialists Skills Course
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in the relevant speciality
- Experience of working independently, and as a member of a team
- Experience of working in emergency gynaecology clinic
Desirable criteria
- Post qualification experience
- Previous experience in caring environment.
- Experience of Audit Research
- Experience of Clinical Supervision
Skills
Essential criteria
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to maintain and improve standards of care
