Job overview
Due to additional investment an exciting opportunity to join an established Children in Care Nursing team has arisen for a permanent full-time post (37.5 hours). Although the service operates Monday to Friday, covering core hours of 9-5, there is a requirement to show flexibility to meet service needs and the needs of children and young people.
We are looking for committed and creative individuals to be part of the team taking the next steps in improving health outcomes for our Children in Care.
Main duties of the job
We are looking to recruit motivated practitioners with initiative and drive and up to date knowledge of the Children in Care health agenda. You will work as part of a team delivering statutory health assessments and health interventions for a defined caseload. You will need to have a broad understanding of children and young people's health issues. The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate flexibility and creative thinking in respect of service delivery.
Knowledge of recent documents and strategies driving the development of services for Children in Care is essential as well as understanding the principles of safeguarding children and young people.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills are required with a commitment to team working as well as being able to demonstrate working using own initiative. You will work closely with GPs, community paediatricians, children and young people and their families, our partner agencies and Commissioners to deliver a quality service.
Working for our organisation
An Enhanced DBS with checks against the Children's and Adults' Barred Lists will be obtained during pre-employment checks. Applicants will be required to see patients and families face to face within a community setting. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that they may come in to contact with people who have COVID-19, although the Trust provides PPE and takes all reasonable steps to ask patients with symptoms to cancel appointments.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will work as part of the Children in Care (CIC) health team to promote and improve the physical and development health and emotional wellbeing of Children in Care (CIC) placed both within Wigan and our surrounding localities.
Working within a Children in Care Health Team under the direct supervision of the Children in Care Specialist Nurse, the post holder will focus on organising and undertaking health assessments for this cohort of children and progressing health care plans generated as part of these assessments. Working within and supported by the wider Children in Care Team, the post holder will ensure that children/young people have a comprehensive health care plan which is meaningful and outcome focused and that children/young people and their carers receive appropriate health advice, information and signposting to support their needs and promote stable placements.
