In this role, you will collaborate with the ward manager to deliver exceptional service and maintain the highest standards of patient care. You'll play a key part in developing and nurturing our staff, ensuring that our nursing care remains compassionate and empathetic.

You will support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse or Matron in delivering outstanding care with compassion to our patients, their relatives, and visitors. Your dedication will help ensure that our ward, department, service, or team continues to provide exemplary care.

Your commitment to excellence will ensure a high standard of nursing is delivered by yourself and your colleagues. You will focus on comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care to meet patients' needs, all in accordance with local and National standards and evidence-based guidelines.

Main duties of the job

You will be supporting the Ward Manager to lead a 5 high dependency surgical ward for elective orthopedic, urology, upper G.I and breast patients. 
 
This is a fantastic development opportunity for a band 5 staff nurse to gain experience at band 6 level. You will gain knowledge and experience of the skills needed to run a busy hospital ward and the wider implications of clinical governance.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Assist and support the Ward Manager in the safe, effective management of the area including management of personnel, facilities and the associated systems and processes.

Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organisation.

Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff.

Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.

Communicate all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team internally and with external organisations as required, to ensure seamless care.

Maintain and develop own professional competence and seek to extend the scope of personal knowledge and skills within scope of role and professional practice

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of leadership experience and learning.
  • Awareness of recent advances within Nursing practice
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and safeguarding and the relevance to practice
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
  • Experience of implementing changes to benefit patients and improve nursing practice
  • Knowledge of Ethical issues
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Research and Development
  • Evidence of clinical competence in area of speciality eg surgery

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • Appropriate NMC Registration
  • Diploma in Nursing
  • NMC recognised Mentorship qualification or willingness to work towards following 18 months commencement in post
  • Evidence of continuing professional education or development in area of speciality
Desirable criteria
  • Degree
  • Post registration qualification in area of speciality area
