Job overview
Rakehead Rehabilitation Centre is a 17 bedded unit providing specialist neurorehabilitation for people with complex needs following a neurological event / diagnosis eg Acquired Brain Injury or spinal injury. We are looking for a team player to help us build on our achievements and to ensure that we respond to the challenges of people with complex rehabilitation needs. Our patients present with a combination of physical, psychological and cognitive impairments requiring the support of a dedicated MDT committed to supporting them to achieve their optimum level of independence. Whilst experience in this area is desirable it is more important that our team is enthusiastic about working in this specialist area. If this is you then we would love to hear from you
This post requires a motivated, positive person with previous experience and an understanding of the Rehabilitation process, management of complex neurological conditions and challenging behaviour. Applicants will be committed to inter-disciplinary team working and the empowerment of individuals. You must have 1st level Nursing Qualification, with 5 years post registration experience, including 2 years at Band 6 in a rehabilitation setting
Main duties of the job
You are required to have a proven ability to be a team leader, and effective communication and leadership skills are essential. Your role will involve leading a team of nursing staff and working with the multi-disciplinary team to organise and deliver complex Rehabilitation programmes and ensuring the dovetailed transition of patients from RRC to an appropriate discharge destination liaising with the Community Neuro-rehab team as required.
You will be responsible for the management of the unit including the deployment and supervision of staff and the teaching of students.
You must have evidence of continued professional development, and up to date knowledge of current trends within Rehabilitation.
You should be confident and able to communicate at all levels.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Have continuing responsibility for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and rehabilitation for a cohort of patients with complex neuro-rehabilitation needs.
To lead a nursing team and ensure that high standards of care and rehabilitation are maintained by the whole team
Responsibility for the setting of high standards of care and the management of a specialist Neuro-rehabilitation unit, including the deployment and supervision of staff and where the teaching of student and/or extensive nursing intervention is required.
To effectively communicate with all the Wards and Departments, within ELHT and externally, and General Practitioners to ensure timely and appropriate admissions and smooth, safe transfers and discharges.
Participate in the Band 7 out of hours shift system to provide adequate nurse management cover on the hospital site.
Effectively manage resources and maintain a budget
Effectively lead the team and ensure policies and procedures are followed
