Job overview

We are therefore looking to recruit a motivated, hardworking scrub practitioner who has excellent communication skills and a passion for their role and improving patient care. When working clinically we expect you to perform with passion and drive, provide clinically excellent care, and be supportive to patients, relatives and other MDT members. As a registered practitioner you will be expected to promote and lead the delivery of an excellent standard of patient centred care in a supported environment.

In return the Urology Department, diagnostics and theatre suite will support with departmental induction, training package and regular appraisal review. The Urology department is predominantly a Monday to Friday department and provides an on call service for urology theatre procedures.

Working for our organisation

The Urology Department provides a diagnostic and therapeutic service to patients with urological problems. It consists of an operating suite, four day-care beds and a diagnostic/treatment suite. You will gain exposure to all areas of the department during your placement; exploring the pathways of patients care when they undergo diagnostic tests, investigations and treatments as outpatients and as the perioperative patient.

There are five Consultant Urologists –Miss Ling Lee, Mr Agapios Gkentzis, Mr Abdallah Sharqawi, Mr Neil Harvey, and Mr Ben Odusanya. Their offices and secretaries are based in the department.  It is a very busy environment and can be quite stressful at times, but the department works well as a team to support all individuals to deliver excellent patient care. 

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for effectively delivering skilled operative care to patients using a systemic approach of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating to ensure a high standard of care. The post holder is encouraged to participate in all domains of perioperative practice namely Scrub, Anaesthetics and Recovery.

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of recent professional development
  • NMC or HCPC registration
  • Certificate in Operating practice.
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of post registration experience in urology and acute general hospital environment

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven clinical experience at Band 5
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in Theatre Scrub/Recovery and Urology.
  • Diagnostic Procedure Experience

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • You will have or be willing to work towards coaching and support of students in practice
Desirable criteria
  • Support learning and assessment in practice
  • Knowledge of Leadership and Management
