Job overview

We at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust provide services across the north west side of the Greater Manchester area ranging from hospital services in Bolton to community services across Bolton, Salford, Ashton, Leigh and Wigan.  We are a progressive, expanding organisation with great ambition around improving quality, integrating pathways and delivering high levels of productivity.

Recent improvements have led to a stronger focus on providing safe and compassionate care and this has increased opportunities to learn, develop and expand your career.

We want midwives to love working with us and the families we serve. We want YOU to be here, shaping our vision for an outstanding service that gives women, families, our community and our midwives an extraordinary experience.

We are a friendly and welcoming unit that creates a positive experience for our women and families and the staff who care for them.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our maternity service for a Band 6 Diabetes Specialist Midwife. You will be working as part of the Diabetes in Pregnancy multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 6 Diabetes Midwife, you will provide high quality, safe midwifery care to women and their families whose pregnancy is complicated by Diabetes. You will have an interest in the care of women with Diabetes in pregnancy and keen to develop a high level of relevant expert knowledge and skills, which you will use to manage, develop and lead care for pregnant women and new mothers with additional needs.

You will provide direct client care and be responsible for providing extra support and care to women whose pregnancy is complicated by Diabetes in partnership with the named Diabetes Specialist Lead Midwife, and the Diabetes in Pregnancy multi-disciplinary team and external agencies.

You will work closely with women and their families to plan and coordinate their care based on their individual needs, providing a link between the maternity service and other services involved in diabetes care.

You will also assist the Diabetes Specialist Lead Midwife to ensure that high standards of quality care are delivered and maintained for women with diabetes and may need to deputise for the Band 7 DSM as required.

As part of your role, you will be supported to successfully complete the Non-Medical Prescribing course.

You will be expected to promote the use of quality improvement methods by frontline staff in order to deliver measurable improvements in patient care.

You will act as a resource of Diabetes specialist knowledge to other members of the multidisciplinary team.

Applications from overseas Nurses/Midwives

The Trust appreciates and values the contribution international nurses/midwives bring to the NHS. We also understand the support overseas nurses/midwives need to gain full registration once in the UK (via OSCE) and therefore we only recruit internationally to fill nursing vacancies when we can ensure support is in place. At this present time we aren’t in a position to offer that support and therefore will not accept applications from overseas nurses/midwives who only have Part 1 NMC registration. If that position changes in future we will clearly advertise our opportunities for international nurses to join our nurse team here in Bolton.

Thank you for your understanding.
