An exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse has recently arisen within the Hospital at Night team service. As part of the team, you will join nine other highly experience practitioners and one Health care assistant in providing out of hours escalation support across both medical and surgical divisions.
You will be required to provide advice, support, guidance and education to other nursing and junior medical staff.
Your hours of work will be based upon a rotational shift pattern that covers:
18:45-07:45 7 days a week
07:00-20:00 Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays
12:00-0:00 Wednesdays
Main duties of the job
- Responding to critical issues, working in partnership with the multi-professional team ensuring prompt support and effective clinical assessment/treatment.
- Continuously delivering quality patient care, ensuring clinical management plans are in place and revieweded.
- Maintaining advanced skills and knowledge in assessment of any patient that are escalated (including history taking and clinical examination, initiation of diagnostic investigations and interpretation of investigating results).
- Maintaining and expanding professional practice in line with principles contained in the nursing professional codes.
- Undertaking cannulations, venepuncture, catheterisation and 12 lead ECG recordings where staff do not currently have this expertise, whilst supporting the acquisition of these skills.
- Working closely with the Clinical Site Manager to support with any challenges that may require your attention.
- Managing the PatientTrac escalation system, ensuring that jobs are allocated and completed appropriately and timely.

Education
Essential criteria
- • RGN registered with the NMC • Educated to degree level or working towards • Clinical Examination skills course/module at degree level • Mentoring and teaching qualification or equivalent • ALS Provider • Registered Independent Nurse Prescriber • Evidence of relevant and recent CPD excluding mandatory Training
Desirable criteria
- • Clinical Leadership programme
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Evidence of ongoing relevant professional development • Recent (within 12 months) and relevant experience of managing acutely unwell patients • Evidence of advanced clinical skills in acute care • Involvement in service improvement and implementation of change • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the relevance to practice • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures • Experience of multi professional teaching and assessing of clinical skills /knowledge/competence in the workplace • Experience of collaborative working with MDT
Desirable criteria
- • Evidence of post registration experience in an acute hospital setting • Experience working as part of a Hospital at Night/Medical Emergency Team/Critical care Outreach Service • Experience of leading and managing a team/service • Knowledge of ethical issues • Research and development in clinical practice

- • Understands and applies principles of learning in practice • Good teaching skills
