Job overview

We currently have a full time (37.5 hours/week) fixed term contract for a Band 5 Staff Nurse on Ward 35.

As an integral member of the team the post holder assists and participate in 
maintaining the smooth running of the unit by providing clerical and administrative support to the nursing staff and (as appropriate) wider multidisciplinary team. The post holder is required to regularly liaise with other areas/departments within the hospital. The post holder is required to work on own initiative and to provide Best Practise standards of care to patients admitted following a fracture or onset of Acute orthopaedic condition.

Ward 35 is a 27 bedded female trauma ward caring for patients of all ages with fractures and acute orthopaedic conditions. The post would suit a newly qualified Staff Nurse or an experienced Staff Nurse wanting to gain further experience in trauma nursing, rehabilitation and complex discharge planning. A full induction package and, preceptorship programme will be offered to the successful candidate. There will also be the opportunity for further study in the area of Trauma Orthopaedics and associated courses such as Student Nurse Mentorship, Tissue Viability and Dementia and leading on to relevant management courses.

You will be working in a close knit team within a busy ward and we will you require you to be flexible in your hours of working to ensure that we can deliver a quality service. 

Main duties of the job

  • Maintain activities to meet requirements.
  • Ensure all policies/protocols/standards are upheld and abide by all policies and procedures regarding implementation, monitoring, training and audit of infection prevention and control issues.
  • Maintain Health and Safety for all staff, patients, visitors, and members of the multidisciplinary team following the Trust’s policy.
  • The post holder must comply with all relevant policies, procedures and training on infection prevention and control.
  • Attend yearly updates for all statutory training.
  •  Take charge of a clinical area unsupervised after progressing through the foundation gateway, this will be on an occasional basis. Once the post holder has gained sufficient experience and has fulfilled their competencies, they will be required to take charge of a 
    clinical area on a regular basis.
  • Manage activities to meet requirements.
  •  Report and document accidents, incidents, and losses.
  • Manage activities to meet customer requirements.
  •  Be accountable within the team for the planning, implementing and evaluation of patient care, maintaining agreed standards and ensuring patient satisfaction.
  • Arrange for the care of patients’ valuables and other property as per Trust policy.
  • Contribute to improvement at work.
  • Take part in developments and trials of new ideas and methods within the Unit.
