An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Paediatric Staff Nurse to work as part of our team at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals.
We require an enthusiastic Registered Children`s Nurse to work within our dedicated, well established teams.
In this post the successful applicant will be working as part of the Paediatric Unit Team and will work within, Children's Assessment unit, Children's Ward, Adolescent ward, High Dependency Unit and Paediatric day surgery.
This will allow the post holder to gain experience nursing children with a wide range of conditions including Oncology patients as where we are a Level 1 POSCU. We have a designated HDU bay where we care for children with deteriorating conditions providing High dependency care. We also have a children's assessment unit and adolescent unit which will allow the successful candidate a wide range of experience.
We have a dedicated support network with a team of Practice Development Sisters providing both clinical support and a wide range of training and opportunities

Qualifications/Training
Essential criteria
- RSCN / Child Branch
- Diploma in nursing
- Evidence of continuing professional development for more experienced and 5 nurses
- Mentorship or willingness to work towards when in post
Desirable criteria
- Minimum 1 year experience
- Degree
- Paediatric Life Support training maintained and up to date
- EPALS/APLS
Experience and knowledge
Essential criteria
- Willingness to expand clinical role, IV training, venepuncture and cannulation
- Experience of working autonomously delivering patient care
- Experience of liaison with different agencies
- Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
- Understanding of clinical governance and risk assessment
- Clear understanding of safeguarding procedures
- Up to date knowledge regarding national / local guidelines in relation to Children’s Services
Desirable criteria
- Administration and Management of intravenous devices eg central lines, portacaths
- Experience of children’s community services
- Knowledge of leadership and management
Skills and abilties

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Able to teach children, families and multi-disciplinary teams about the care of a child in the community and hospital
- Computer literate
- Ability to work with colleagues across health, education and social care settings
