An exciting opportunity has arisen for a two band 5 staff nurses to join the IV Therapy team at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.  This post is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a passion for intravenous therapies and line care.  The successful applicant must demonstrate a passion for nursing and share the team’s commitment to deliver services that are reliable, of high quality and safe in an area of work that brings challenges yet is extremely rewarding.  The post holder will work closely with clinicians to provide evidence-based, holistic care to patients referred to the intravenous therapy service.  The intravenous therapy team is a relatively small team with room for growth and expansion with further engagement with hospital services to support patients requiring intravenous therapies.  We are based at South Shore primary Care Centre in Blackpool. 

We are looking to recruit a staff nurse with clinical experience, motivation and enthusiasm who is able to work autonomously and as a team player.

  1. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the individual requirements of patients and carers referred to IV Service. In the absence of the Senior Nursing team, take responsibility for appropriate delegation & organisation of staff & patient caseload ensuring effective delivery of the service. Responsible for assessing referrals to ensure they meet criteria for IV therapy.

 2.Provide a high standard of evidence based nursing care to patients in the community setting. 

  1. Support the Team Leader in the supervision of other team members, delegation of work, by providing support, guidance and clinical expertise as required. Responsible in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the Community IV Therapy Service and reporting any shortfalls. 

                  4.    Use a high level of communication skills with both patients and their families. Including those where English as a second language or the patient has learning disabilities, to communicate condition-related information.

      5.    Actively seek to promote health both individually and to patients and carers.

 6.   Administer medications within NMC guidelines. Collect and transport prescriptions (which may include controlled drugs), when no other alternative is available. Ensure safe disposal of CD's & clinical waste.

The post holder will work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team supporting the team in the delivery of the Community Intravenous Therapy Services (COMMIT) in line with national and local service priorities. The aim of the intravenous therapy service is either to prevent hospital admission or facilitate early discharge from hospital by providing Intravenous therapy in a clinic or home setting.  Patients must be registered to GP surgeries within Blackpool, Fylde, and Wyre ICB.
