An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a full time Band 2 Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly and caring team on C2 within  Blackpool Victoria Hospital. Ward C2 is a 17 bedded male Diabetes & Endocrinology ward.

The successful candidate will be a team player and will enjoy supporting the Nursing and medical teams who provide full care and medical interventions for all patients. Alongside this you will be required to work with varying allied healthcare professionals, such as Physiotherapists, occupational Therapists and Speech and Language therapists, in order to provide full, holistic care to all patients and meet their individual care needs. 

The successful candidate will be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service. Main duties of the post holder will include providing personal care, documenting changes within the patients, dietary and fluid intake as well as fluid output, bowel movements, general condition and presentation as well as escalating to other healthcare professionals. We are looking for an enthusiastic team player with excellent communication skills and desire to deliver quality patient care. Assist in the care of patients after they have suffered a stroke 

Specific duties will include, following appropriate training:

  • Taking and recording observations such as temperature,  BMI (If trained and competent)
  • Blood glucose monitoring (If trained and competent)
  • Urinalysis
  • weight and MUST completion 
  • Ensuring specimens are delivered to Pathology
  • ECG recording (If trained and competent)
  • assisting with hygiene needs 
  • Chaperoning patients to scans/appointments
  • assisting with meals 
  • Daily maintaining clean and safe treatment rooms and general ward areas.
  • Specific patient paperwork documentation

To undertake such duties as maybe required from time to time and which are consistent with the responsibilities of the band and individual`s level of competency.

The post-holder will work in the scheduled care setting supporting the Nurse Practitioners carrying out agreed tasks within the preoperative assessment team. 
The duties will be mainly clinical with occasional clerical cover as required. Full training will be provided to ensure competency.

  • Basic I.T. skills in E mail.
  • Basic understanding of NHS issues.
  • Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationship with colleagues in the health care setting.
  • Carry out clinical interventions as delegated by a RN or Doctor as agreed by local protocols.
