Manual Handling Facilitator - 27 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of a Manual Handling Facilitator within Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking to recruit a confident and competent trainer to help facilitate the manual handling training delivery to our workforce. You must be enthusiastic, motivated, adaptable and team orientated. You will work within the larger Clinical Training Team. The post holder will be expected to deliver and monitor programmes of manual handling education and training to all disciplines and grades of staff within the Trust. This will include the training/development of staff in a classroom setting as well as 
training and support within the work place.

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience as a Manual Handling Key Trainer, be capable of working without direct supervision and ensure a high standard of care for all patients by effective manual handling and promotion of best practice for clinical and non-clinical staff. They will also be involved in audits around manual handling, equipment reviews and service development. The successful candidate is required to be able to demonstrate the Trust values, the responsibilities of the job description and the person specification.

·         Support the manual handling officer in the design, delivery and evaluation of manual handling programmes- including induction in relation to safe moving and handling, in accordance with Trust and national priorities

·         Deliver, manual handling and associated equipment training and basic life support training in line with the Trust training plans and according to Trust requirements

·         To actively maintain a professional manual handling and equipment advisory service across the Trust providing specialist advice for all clinical and non-clinical staff as required

·         To assist with the promotion of a healthy workplace by educating staff and implementing change to minimise the risk of injury from the moving and handling of loads and people, static postures and repetitive activities.

·         To utilise and encourage problem solving approaches to create a learning environment in which staff can achieve their learning objectives

Demonstrate a pleasant, approachable, and proactive manner to create and promote a good working relationship with all clinical divisions

 

Adhere to uniform policy to maintain a professional appearance and act as a role model for Trust values

 

Support the Manual Handling Officer as a specialist resource for the Trust in relation to safe handling processes

 

·         Communicate effectively verbally and non-verbally with the MDT regarding moving and handling provision /developments.

 

·         To communicate in both written and verbal form, any health and safety/ergonomics related information to all grades of staff, clinical, non-clinical and external agencies.

 

·         Some interactions may be sensitive and  potentially difficult moving and handling related information and should be escalated to the Manual Handling Officer as appropriate.

 

·         Demonstrate effective use of Microsoft word, excel and outlook IT packages – always adhering to trust and IT governance policies. Updating and improving as role requires.

 

·         Respect equality and diversity across all areas of working practice and communications with staff, patients and other stakeholders.

 

·         Responsible for teaching a range of subjects in line with current legislation and best practice, including risk assessment process, falls prevention and bed rails.

 

·         Advise and support the management plan for patients with complex moving and handling needs, making recommendations to minimise risk.

 

·         Manage and/or assist clinical staff with the complex moving and handling of patients / visitors or staff requiring assistance in exceptional or emergency situations across the Trust. Competently operate appropriate equipment to ensure safety and dignity of those involved.

 

·         Support the Manual Handling Officer in relation to adverse manual handling incidents and moving and handling complaints

 

·         Contribute to the development of policies and procedures within the trust and locally formulate safe systems of work.

 

·         Provide constructive feedback to staff members to enable and ensure the development of competence.

 

·         Involvement in monitoring of all moving and handling equipment used within the Trust in line with current legislation and Trust policy.

 

·         Take an active role in audits where there is cause for concern regarding moving and handling procedures.

 

·         Demonstrate effective written communication skills always maintaining confidentiality.

 

Work autonomously and as part of the team, with the ability to prioritise own day to day workload and manage own time effectively
