Are you an experienced Staff Nurse looking to progress within your Nursing career or already in a Band 6 role and looking for a new challenge? This could be the ideal opportunity for you to gain experience as a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse in an exciting acute setting. If you are looking for your next challenge we would like to hear from you. 

We have an exciting opportunity to join the team as a Junior Sister /Charge Nurse within the Acute Medical Unit at Tunbridge Wells Hospital.

This role will involve developing further skills and knowledge in relation to patient care, managerial/team leadership duties and assisting in developing the Acute Medical Unit and the Ambulatory Emergency Care.

You will also be provided with opportunity work within our developing Ambulatory Emergency Care unit as this helps to support the flow of patients through the Emergency Department.  
Our department offers an educationally focused environment that allows nurses to professionally grow and develop a vast repertoire of clinical skills and theoretical knowledge. You will have opportunities to work alongside the Practice Development Nurse to further develop you key knowledge and skills in this exciting, fast paced environment.


To ensure this we have strong links with three local Universities and are committed to delivering work-based educational initiatives. We have a structured pathway leading to both your professional and career development.

In the role of Junior Sister/Charge Nurse you can have a positive influence on all clinical issues within the Unit. You will join a dedicated team of experienced and motivated nurses and Consultants.

Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions.

Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trust’s 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics.  The programme is full-time (please email [email protected] if this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning

Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at Enhanced Level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children)

  • First level nursing registration and evidence of further study since qualification
  • ENB998 (or equivalent) knowledge skill

  • Evidence of continuing education - diploma/degree level
  • Advanced Life Support provider

Experience/Knowledge

  • Experience in acute hospital setting.
  • Experience at Staff Nurse Band 5 (or equivalent)
  • IV drug therapy, IV cannulation & venepuncture skills
  • Evidence of insight and understanding of current issues in nursing and NHS
  • Expert clinician

  • An understanding of caring for acute medical patients classed as Level 2
