Are you interested in pursuing a specializing career in Stroke and developing advanced skills which will be used to provide care to Stroke patients in their hyper-acute phase?

We have an exciting opportunity for a registered nurse that would like to advance their career in Stroke and join our dynamic Stroke team caring for all aspects of Stroke Care.

We are looking for Senior Nurses with Acute Stroke experience to further develop skills in assessing any suspected Stroke patients and managing patients in the acute phase.

Main duties of the job

Our Stroke Assessment bay, based on the Acute Stroke unit, is the setting where rapid Stroke / TIA assessments take place and where we deliver acute stroke interventions. We also provide thrombolysis and work alongside thrombectomy centres 24 hours a day.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing our Stroke unit and driving standards of care.

Previous experience in Acute Stroke care with the skills to assess and deliver thrombolysis and provide care /expertise post thrombolysis is essential when applying for this position.

You will be supported through Stroke Specific competencies and training to further develop, and be given support to develop management skills.

MTW has had a Hyper Acute Stroke Unit developed at our Maidstone Site, and there will be long term opportunities for career development.

You will need to have a broad range of nursing knowledge and skills, be able to demonstrate that you can provide excellent stroke care; and have up to date NIHSS competency. You will be expected to act as a role model to junior staff and support them in developing their skills in Stroke nursing care.

You should possess excellent interpersonal skills, a passion for caring for patients following a stroke and need to be motivated to continue your professional development within this supportive team.

All successful applicants will be required to complete our corporate trust induction once a start date had been agreed.

Following your corporate induction you will be expected to attend the Trust’s 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please email [email protected]t if this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

  • Registered with Nursing & Midwifery Council

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice at the level of a Stroke Assessor.
  • NIHSS and Stroke Training and Awareness Resources competencies up to date
  • Able to cannulate and take bloods
Desirable criteria
  • Recent experience in an acute stroke care setting.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a registered nurse in acute care setting.
