Job overview

Maidstone Oncology Outpatients is looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated registered nurse to join our friendly and supportive team. Our focus is on ensuring that our patients receive high quality care quickly, in clean and comfortable surroundings. Your days will be varied, offering support to clinicians and patients across all clinics, providing support, motivation and you will be responsible of ensuring the smooth running of the department. Your skills and expertise will be valued.

Main duties of the job

You should be able to combine autonomy with team working sensitivity and professionalism.

You will be expected to adopt a holistic, pro-active and dynamic approach, being responsible for the delivery of a high standard of care and service to the patients. You will in association with your colleagues be required to support patients and their carers on all aspects of their care, be they newly diagnosed, or being treated with palliative intent.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions. 

Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trust’s 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics.  The programme is full-time (please email [email protected] if this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at Enhanced Level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children).

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Teaching/Mentorship qualification e.g. ENB 998 or equivalent
  • Degree or Diploma
  • NMC Registration
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant Leadership/ management course

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 2 -3 years’ experience in haematology and or oncology
  • Is able to manage workload and delegate to others.
  • Demonstrate and ability to manage or lead a nursing team effectively
  • IV cannulation & venepuncture skills
Desirable criteria
  • IV drug therapy
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NHS including professional practice and accountability

  • Good communication skills, verbal and written
  • Evidence of problem solving and decision making skills
  • Adaptable and flexible Ability to be reflective, accept criticism and act constructively
  • Be able to co-ordinate work load and liaise with multi-disciplinary team
