We are recruiting for an Senior Sister / Senior Charge Nurse who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.
Main duties of the job
Our Children’s nursing team is expanding, and is led by our Director of Nursing for Children and Young People, a Trust wide role to ensure children and young people receive high quality care wherever they access our services across the organisation.
The successful post holder will ensure that the children and young people in the paediatric areas receive a high quality nursing care across our Inpatient & Outpatient wards, High Dependency Unit, and the Surgical Day Care Centre.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Lead the ward / departmental team and build successful links between key professionals to support and promote effective multi-disciplinary team working
Manage the department nursing staff, ensuring Children and Young People (CYP) receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs and doctrines
Be wholly accountable for his / her practice in line with the NMC Code and takes every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve his / her knowledge and professional competence
Communicate effectively and efficiently and liaise with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure that patients receive seamless care within the Trust
Act as a professional nurse leader and role model to the staff. To apply clinical skills of the highest standard and to take a proactive approach to the development of clinical competence in self and others
Maximise use of clinical resources, implementing best practice in patient flow, admission and discharge arrangements
Have an awareness of monthly budget statements, identifying trends, understanding spending patterns in order to stay in budget and take action as required

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register
- Specialist professional knowledge to Degree level or equivalent
- Mentorship / teaching qualification
- Management qualification or equivalent relevant experience
Experience
Essential criteria
- Proven experience on managing a ward; including management of rotas, managing competencies, resources and staff
- Experience of administering intravenous drug therapy
- Experience of teaching / assessing / supervising others in a clinical setting
Skills
Essential criteria
- Able to demonstrate sound safeguarding children knowledge, able to recognise concerns, escalate them appropriately and ensure other ward staffs do the same in line with Trust policy
- Ability to organise and plan own time and that of junior staff and learners
- Good communication skills and ability to deal with sensitive information. To include dealing with distressed relatives, care of terminally ill and other challenging situations
- Able to assess plan, implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients / clients and give relevant advice / information to patients and relatives
