We are recruiting for a Clinical Sister / Charge Nurse who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.

Main duties of the job

An exciting Charge Nurse position has presented itself for a within the emergency department.

The successful post holder will be expected to deputise the Senior Charge Nurse and act as a role model for junior team members in the delivery of high standard and nursing care.

As a Charge Nurse you will provide clinical leadership skills by supporting, energising and be able to empower others in the pursuit of a shared vision to ensure the effective management of the ward.

We provide a comprehensive package of learning and development that will assist you on your journey towards becoming an expert in emergency care.

This includes access to different MSc programmes.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Is wholly accountable for his / her practice in line with the NMC Code and takes every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve his / her knowledge and professional competence

Will complete mandatory and statutory training within the set timeframes, this will enable them to act in accordance with Local, Hospital and Statutory Guidelines and Policies including Health and Safety initiatives

Will be familiar with the Health and Safety at Works Act, and be aware of its implications, ensuring that local unit and departmental policies are followed

Will actively participate in his / her annual appraisal and ongoing review, including compilation of a personal and professional portfolio to support professional revalidation and reflect advancing clinical practice

Will maintain a high standard of care and give courteous reception to all patients and visitors Working in accordance with corporate objectives

Will practice in a cost effective and cost aware manner with the patient at the centre of all initiatives

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse with the NMC

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of the NMC Code of professional standards of practice and behaviour for nurses and midwives
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and the necessity to report incidents
  • Knowledge of the individual’s responsibility towards health and Safety

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Has previous knowledge and skills of identifying deteriorating patients
  • Working in nursing and particularly acute areas can be stressful, applicants will be required to discuss how they deal with stress to ensure a healthy work lifestyle balance
  • Basic computer skills including ability to use Microsoft Word Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills

Experience

  • 18 month experience as RGN
