The successful post holders will be expected to provide support and assistance to professionals in the implementation of care plans for individual patients.
As a Bank Healthcare Support Worker, you will ensure patients receive a high quality of clinical care and a good patient experience. We have a management team that is both innovative and proactive in ensuring that high quality care is delivered to our patients.

Main duties of the job
Provide excellent customer care skills to ensure patients come first.
Undertakes a range of delegated clinical care duties to deliver agreed plans of care, acting on own initiative.
Demonstrate, encourage and assist patients in undertaking therapeutic activities within parameters of agreed care plans and under guidance of registered practitioners.
To ensure patients receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs and doctrines.
Recognise and avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the individuals.
To act as an advocate for patients within the department, to ensure a patient orientated approach to the delivery of care and to meet standards within the NHS Plan and other relevant guidelines.
Provides support and assistance to professionals in the implementation of plans of care for individual patients.
Assist with fluid and dietary needs of patients including completion of menu cards and recording intake and output of fluids and solids.
As directed, to collect specimens from patients and to record routine observations of weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiratory rate. Report and abnormalities and concerns to a Registered Nurse.
Recognise when patients are in pain and discomfort and report to the nurse in charge.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will be responsible for carrying out assigned tasks as part of the clinical team in support of registered nurses, and to undertake some aspects of care provision without direct supervision. Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of service users, always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights, through the adoption of persons centred care principles.

In the clinical areas where the role expectation is to undertake venepuncture / cannulation, the post holder must only do this when trained and assessed as competent.
Under the direction of trained staff maintain and develop own skills including:
- Accurate monitoring and recording of vital signs including - blood pressure, oxygen saturations
- Recording of ECG
- Simple aseptic dressings including removal of sutures, clips and intravenous cannula
- After appropriate training; secure and remove female catheters; empty drainage bags and accurately measure and record urinary output
- Administering enema’s and suppositories
- Monitoring and recording of blood glucose levels
To respond appropriately to clinical emergencies to ensure the patient receives appropriate care.
To assist the registered nurse with the safe handling and mobilisation of patients and when necessary to assist in the transportation of patients.
To chaperone patients to other clinical departments, following assessment by a registered nurse, to maintain patient safety.
Under the direction of the Healthcare Professional participate in the assessment, admission, discharge and handover of patients.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Evidence of a general education e.g. GCSE's or equivalent
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of hospital systems
- Knowledge of Manual handling of patients, using lifting aids
Experience
Essential criteria
- At least 6 months acute hospital experience
- Customer care experience
- Commitment to working in partnership with patients / carers
- Care experience within the last 3 years
