Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the eye dept for an enthusiastic NMC Registered Nurse to work in our busy eye dept. Responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of care pathways within the ophthalmology service, without supervision.

Based in the Ophthalmology outpatients department, at Medway Maritime Hospital, but may be required to travel and work in the ophthalmology clinics at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Hospitals, if required.

 

Main duties of the job

You will be assisting in the smooth running of services within all settings of the department. You would be expected to undergo training and competency rating in order to expand your role in assisting medical staff. You will be accountable to the senior nurse in the dept.

Some of the expected responsibilities include visual field testing, OCT scanning, vision testing, assisting in medical procedures, basic observation taking. You must have good interpersonal skills and be adaptable as the workload can change quickly. You should be of an empathetic character and previous experience of ophthalmology is preferred.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions.

Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trust’s 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics.  The programme is full-time (please email [email protected] if this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at Enhanced Level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children)
