Job overview

We are currently looking for a Band 4 HCA/Support Worker to work on a Bank agreement for our Eating Disorders team in Rosanne House, Welwyn. All applicants must have previous experience in Eating Disorders

The postholder will support patients with severe eating disorders in our day unit.  We provide an intense programme of group therapies, meal support and 1:1 sessions with the aim of helping our patients recover from their eating disorder in the community and avoid an inpatient admission to a specialist eating disorders hospital.

We currently run the programme Monday to Friday, 4 days a week in person and one day a week virtually via MS Teams.  Working hours are 8.15am to 4.15pm but there is a plan to offer an evening meal to our patients one day a week which will mean working till 6.30pm.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to support patients at mealtimes, ensuring they adhere to their meal plan.  Staff are required to eat with our patients and emulate normal healthy eating behaviours both in the unit, and off-site at weekly visits to cafes/restaurants.

The post holder will be required to co-facilitate therapeutic groups and take the lead in providing activities such as arts/crafts, games, and indoor gardening in between sessions.

The post holder will be required to accompany staff and patients to local shops to buy provisions and assist in cooking sessions.

The post holder will be required to keep accurate documentation on our electronic system and be computer literate, able to correspond via email and use MS Teams.

The post holder will be required to assist the nurses in the medical monitoring of patients.

The postholder will be responsible for daily housekeeping duties which include assisting with stocktaking, cleaning of therapeutic and medical equipment and daily monitoring of essential medical emergency equipment (training will be given).

In many cases the patients will have had a long and complex history of eating disorders and are at high physical risk.  However, the post holder will always be part of a multi-disciplinary team and will be supported in all decisions.
