Job overview

We are recruiting for a Research Nurse who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients. 

We are looking for two  Research Nurses who will work on research studies in a wide range of specialties that include cardiology, surgery, anaesthetics and critical care, gynaecology, respiratory gastroenterology.

Specialist knowledge in one or more of the specialist areas will be useful in delivering the role.  

You will play a key role in identification of potential research participants, recruitment of patients into trials and supporting them through the trial process and treatment. Induction, training and support will be provided.

Main duties of the job

To be part of the research team delivering new and innovative treatments to patients at the Trust. 

To work with clinicians and other specialists recruiting patients to clinical trials and other NIHR research studies.

The be a recognized expert in one or more specialties and in the field of clinical research.

To take responsibility for the co-ordination and management of clinical research projects, collaborating with key personnel throughout the network to ensure continued care and support for patients involved in clinical trials.

To take responsibility for the safe administration of experimental drugs and for monitoring the expected and unexpected side effects of drugs and other treatment modalities.

Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • NMC General Registered Nurse
  • Relevant Post graduate specialist courses or equivalent experience
  • Teaching and mentoring qualification or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Considerable experience of working in the clinical trial setting at band 6
  • Experience within a specialist field
  • Experience of teaching, supervising and mentoring junior staff.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of personal accountability.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Ability of working with a high level of autonomy.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Basic computer skills.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of budget management.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of research
  • Advanced level of specialist knowledge within specialist area of work.
  • Governance Framework
  • Current international conference on harmonisation/good clinical practice certificate (ICH/GCP)
