Job overview

We are recruiting for a Senior Resuscitation Practitioner who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

This is a developmental post so we welcome candidates who are currently qualified for a band 7 Senior Resuscitation Practitioner or a band 6 Junior Resuscitation Practitioner in development subject to meeting person specifications. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual that is passionate about improving patient care.

You will work as part of the team supporting the resuscitation improvement strategy for the Trust, ensuring that the service is able to develop and support the East and North Herts NHS Trust’s quality improvement objectives, maintaining a safe environment for patients. Working in partnerships with teams such as critical care outreach and sepsis team with a drive to prevent patient deterioration.

You will act as a Resuscitation Practitioner to The Trust and will work closely with the Non-Medical Education team and Medical Education team to deliver training to all clinical staff employed by the Trust and will support continued improvement in providing education across the Trust.

Main duties of the job

You will work with the other team members to ensure the standardisation and development of the service, ensuring that the service is able to grow to fulfil the needs of East and North Herts NHS Trust staff.

Manage day-to-day operation of the resuscitation service delivery with other members of the team. 

Deputise for the Lead Resuscitation Practitioner in their absence.

Participate in the planning, delivery, organisation, and evaluation of training programmes delivered by the department.

Instruct/Direct national life support courses run by the Trust.

Conduct in situ simulation sessions and promote learning from outcomes.

Provide clinical and managerial leadership and support to all groups of staff on resuscitation matters.

Respond to 2222 calls for deteriorating patients and cardiac arrests.

Perform investigations into in-patient cardiac arrests.

This role will require specialised knowledge and skills, in the resuscitation of paediatric and adult patients.

Qualifications/ Training

Essential criteria
  • Professional clinical qualification. RN, ODP or Paramedic (NMC or HCPC).
  • Relevant post basic qualification e.g. EMB 100/199/124
  • Recognised Teaching Qualification e.g ENB 998, C&G 7307 or Cert Ed.
  • Generic Instructor Course Qualification (Resuscitation Council [UK])
  • ALS Instructor/ Instructor candidate
  • EPALS/APLS instructor/Instructor candidate.
Desirable criteria
  • EPALS or APLS Provider/Instructor Certificate.
  • ALS/EPALS/NLS Course Director.
  • GIC Instructor Certificate.
  • NLS Provider/Instructor Certificate.
  • Recognised management qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant 1ST Degree
  • Administration of First Line Drugs.

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum two years as band 6/7 in an acute care area or band 6 Resuscitation Officer.
  • Act as a mentor.
  • Development of short- and long-term strategy plans.
  • Development and implementation of policies, audit, training.
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable evidence of effective evaluation of training programs that will ensure that Clinical Governance and other professional standards.
  • Ability to identify areas for research and instigated areas for research and development at local and/or national level.
  • Ability to conduct and report on clinical audit and the development of action plans and implementation of change.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates the ability to work both within a team and independently, whilst supervising and teaching others.
  • Demonstrates the ability to rapidly assess, interpret and co-ordinate the initiation of treatment.
  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills.
  • Proven ability to used learned knowledge to change practice.
  • Proven teaching and assessing ability

  • Excellent negotiation Skills.
  • Ability to plan and co-ordinate a comprehensive training program for all levels of staff

  • Ability to provide constructive clinical debriefing to members of staff post cardiac arrest and other critical events.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of the wider NHS environmental and current issues.
  • Ability to work within a budget
  • Demonstrates ability to interpret data and verifies evidence to change practice.
  • Knowledge of current resuscitation issues in clinical practice and Current national resuscitation guidance
  • Be aware of clinical risk and clinical governance issues relating to resuscitation.
  • Computer literacy including office 2010; Excel, Access, Powerpoint
