Job overview

We are recruiting for a Nurse Team Leader -5A  who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6  Nurse Team Leader to enjoy the thriving team on 5A at the Lister hospital.  Specialising ENT, Plastics , general  female surgery.  The ward offers a varied learning experience and ability to develop professionally.

To be part of the nursing team to provide a high standard of research based care, support the team working in the area to deliver a quality service through a high standard of patient care and support and deputise for the Senior Sister in charge of the ward.

Main duties of the job

Support the senior sister in the provision of a planned and holistic programme of care for ward 5a, it is a busy ENT and Plastic and female surgical ward.

Provide leadership in developing, implementing and evaluating standards of care in line with evidence based practice.

Ensure best practice of infection prevention and control within ward providing a clean environment

With the senior sister, provide advice, support and leadership to all staff working in the area.

Work in close collaboration with other professionals providing advice and expertise to patients and the multi-disciplinary team.

Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered nurse on part 1 or 12 of the NMC register
  • Mentorship and preceptorship qualification or equivalent (or evidence of working towards it)
  • Evidence of continued professional development in relevant areas of specialty
Desirable criteria
  • Working towards a degree at higher level
  • Leadership qualification

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive clinical and managerial experience working on an acute medical ward at Senior Staff Nurse leve
  • Current working knowledge and skills in the management of surgical patients, especially orthopedic surgical patients
  • Experience of caring for patients with multiple comorbidities, complex drug regime’s and complex discharge requirements
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of or willingness to undertake conference presentations.
  • Experience in change management
  • Experience of nursing within an acute clinical setting
  • Experience in managing a ward/department, including management of staff, rota, staff competencies, resources.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work with all staff on a multiprofessional level, demonstrating up to date knowledge of practice development within surgical nursing.
  • Knowledge of computing skills
  • Evidence of professional development and a proven commitment to the management of post-op surgical patient
  • Broad knowledge of post-op care and the management of the surgical patient
  • Good understanding of good quality patient care and patient safety

Other Requierments

Essential criteria
  • Willingness to rotate to other areas concerning the care and management of diabetes
  • Keen to drive change management and uphold excellent quality care consistently
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to network
