Job overview
To provide delivery of an advanced specialist nursing service for people diagnosed with skin cancer. To provide highly specialist expertise and knowledge in the management of patients requiring dermatological skin surgery both pre and post-operatively in collaboration with other healthcare colleagues.
To provide comprehensive nurses support to patients and their carer’s with a diagnosis of skin cancer. The nurse will be capable of working as an autonomous practitioner, undertaking nurse-led clinics as part of skin cancer surveillance.
To provide high quality specialist clinical care of post-operative patients, undertaking patient reviews and providing senior clinical advice ensuring patients receive the most appropriate care based on their clinical need. To act as an independent practitioner in the excision and wound closure of potential skin cancer lesions.
To work as a core member within the Skin Cancer MDT liaising with the SSMDT as appropriate |
Main duties of the job
- To operate autonomously at an advanced level of clinical practice providing research based expert care and advice to all colleagues and managing a caseload effectively, making the most of available time.
- To accept referrals from medical/nursing staff of newly diagnosed and existing skin cancer patients and pt with sun relates changes .
- To ensure that patients are seen within the recommended time scales and targets where these are in place.
- To utilise specialist skills, underpinned by in depth theoretical knowledge, to facilitate the assessment, planning and implementation of individualised programmes of care for patients presenting with a specialist condition and to evaluate their programmes of care.
- To undertake initial assessment of patients including physical examination, assessment/investigation of symptoms, evaluation of test results and recommendation of further diagnostic tests.
