Child Health at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT) is pleased to offer the opportunity to join as a Band 7 Senior sister for Northbrook Ward. The delivery of high quality, effective and compassionate care is crucial within the organisation.
Northbrook Ward is an 18 bedded acute inpatient unit that provides care for children with a range of medical and surgical care needs, including those with high dependency care needs.. This role is incredibly varied. It requires an individual who can role model the delivery of high quality clinical care to their own group of patients and support a team of nurses and health care support workers .
Main duties of the job
- Facilitating the assessment and delivery of care to children and young people with a range of care needs within a 24/7 service
- Delivering line management to a team of band 6, 5 and 3 nurses and healthcare support workers
- Oversight of running of ward including environmental standards and adherence to policies
- Supporting band 6 team in delivery of performance and sickness management processes
- Oversight of rostering and effective use of ward budget
- Developing or maintaining enhanced clinical skills such as paediatric venepuncture and cannulation
- Confident in delivering and supporting others to care for young people with complex mental health and/ or safeguarding concerns
- Acting as representative for Northbrook ward within the trust
- Support for child health matrons

Training and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered children's nurse with UK professional registration
- Degree level education or equivalent knowledge and skills gained through any combination of alternative study, or employment experience
- Teaching and Assessing Qualification or equivalent study or work experience
Desirable criteria
- Project management learning and/or development.
- Level 3 Certificate/Diploma in Management and Leadership, or equivalent
Experience and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Evidence of Continued Professional Development (CPD) clearly recorded for professional profile
- Evidence of significant post registration clinical work on a variety of clinical areas
- Experience of staff supervision and mentorship including, employee relations, performance and conduct
Desirable criteria
- Experience of project management for policy development or large-scale projects
Skills and Ability
Essential criteria
- Customer Service experience i.e. dealing with complaints and to manage any barriers to information
- Understanding of effective clinical governance including implications, quality and audit
- Clinical Skills appropriate to Child Health
Desirable criteria
- Highly specialised clinical skills relevant to the speciality e.g. trained in non-invasive ventilation
