Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time, band 6 clinical facilitator to join our expanding Neonatal Education Team in Southampton. 

We are looking to recruit a highly knowledgeable, motivated and skilled neonatal nurse to support the development of students and staff within the unit. You will hold the neonatal Qualified in Speciality / ENB 405 qualification and have experience caring for complex babies requiring ventilatory / respiratory support, including high frequency oscillation, nitric oxide and cooling therapy. Experience in supporting junior staff and students as a practice supervisor / assessor would be an advantage.

As the largest neonatal unit on the South Coast, we are in the process of expanding our education team to meet the clinical demands within the unit. Following the roll out of our expansion plan, we will be providing expert care for 43 babies including 14 ITU, 13 HDU and 16 special care infants. We are a leading surgical and cardiac centre and can offer you opportunities to develop your skills in a supportive environment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Responsibilities:
Working closely with the Lead Educator and the other clinical facilitators within the neonatal unit, you will be primarily supporting the education of non-registered staff and junior staff within the neonatal unit. This will include pre-registration learners, education support of bands 2-4 staff and skills training with nurses on the neonatal foundation / QIS programmes. Your role will include: 

Supporting and facilitating clinical learning in the neonatal unit and other local areas to identify learning opportunities which enhance the quality of care that babies receive.

Facilitating multi-disciplinary and inter-departmental learning and simulation activities.

Acting as a resource and role model for staff on all aspects of clinical education.

What experience / skills are needed: The ideal candidate will have: 

•    RSCN / RN Child / RN Adult / RM registration
•    Specialist Neonatal QIS qualification / ENB 405
•    First level degree preferable and / or relevant neonatal experience
•    Evidence of mentor / practice assessor qualification
•    Teaching and assessing qualification desirable
•    Evidence of ongoing professional development
•    NLS qualification
•    Experience as a band 5 / band 6 neonatal QIS nurse
•    Knowledge of change management an advantage
•    Knowledge of NMC education standards
•    Ability to be flexible to meet the needs of the team
