Job overview

Senior Children and Young People's Specialist Nurse- Weight Management, Band 7 (22.5 hours a week)

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and young people struggling with excess weight and health-related complications? If so, join our dynamic team at Gloucestershire Hospitals as a Senior Children and Young People’s Specialist Nurse in Weight Management.

As the Senior Specialist Nurse, you will be responsible for coordinating and leading elements of integrated care delivery for children and young people (CYP) with excess weight and health-related complications. Showcase your clinical excellence, promote innovative approaches, and champion child-focused practices to improve outcomes for CYP in Gloucestershire.

If you are a brave, ambitious, and compassionate Nurse Specialist with a passion for improving outcomes for children and young people affected by obesity, we want to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

The Senior CYP Nurse Specialist will coordinate, lead on and support elements of holistic care provision for children and young people (CYP) and their families affected by excess weight as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT). NB: alongside living with excess weight, CYP may have diverse and complex health comorbidities, comorbid mental health problems and complex trauma presentations.

Act as the ‘linchpin’ to integrated service delivery, supporting joined-up care from a range of health, social care, education and community services concurrently and where appropriate, support CYP transition from community to clinical weight management services.

Working for our organisation

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the largest employer in the county and with over 8,000 staff, we are one of the largest NHS trusts in the UK.  We offer a generous annual leave allowance, excellent bank rates, access to the excellent NHS Pension Scheme, discounts for local shops, restaurants and services, access to our health and well-being hub, access to our two on-site nurseries, flexible working options, discounted public transport, reward and recognition schemes, exercise and activity classes and membership to our popular hospital choir.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Senior CYP Nurse Specialist will develop their knowledge and understanding of the complex nature and medical requirements in managing excess weight, to enable them to provide specialist nursing skills, knowledge and expertise to support CYP and their families.

The Senior CYP Nurse Specialist will contribute to holistic health assessments of CYP including physical, psychological and social factors, collaborating with the MDT to develop individualised care plans and provide a point of contact for families to ensure these are regularly reviewed.

Alongside the MDT, the Nurse Specialist will provide support, monitoring, health promotion and education to CYP and their families related to excess weight, to enable them to lead a life where they can develop to their full potential emotionally, physically and psychologically.
