Dental Nurse, Band 4 (30 hours a week)
This post is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Dental Nurse to join a multidisciplinary team and support the speciality to ensure the provision of a high standard of patient care.
This is an opportunity for you to develop and expand your skills as a dental nurse to the next level You will be working alongside and under the instruction of Consultants and other qualified clinicians. Clinics you will assist in are Oral surgery, Local procedures, Orthodontics and specialised clinics such as Orthognathic, Alveolar, Implants and Cleft lip and Palate. You will need to be a highly motivated and confident member of the team . Our patients will expect and will receive the highest standards of professional care by all members of the team.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be a Dental nurse interested in developing the service to our patients. We would welcome any applications for this Band 4 role for those with experience in Dental nursing and or Orthodontics .We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and a compassionate nurse with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to help us to deliver outstanding treatment and care to our patients.
You will be responsible for the setting up and closing/cleaning down of your surgery and maintaining stock levels. Assisting clinicians and providing chairside assistance in all clinics within our specialty. To act as scrub nurse in our local procedure clinics. Prepare medical and orthodontic notes for clinics and obtain investigation results from computerised systems. We are looking for someone who is team focused.
The candidate needs Active registration with The General Dental council (GDC)
Evidence of ongoing professional Development through maintenance of professional CPD.

This is a cross-site specialty with all staff required to work at both Cheltenham General Hospital & Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. Free transport is provided for trust staff by shuttle-bus between the two sites.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder is responsible for cleaning and maintaining a safe working environment using measures to reduce cross infection as per Trust policy.
- Communicate effectively with patients, carers, relatives and all members of the multidisciplinary team, including giving of advice and information following procedures or relating to specialist conditions, including emotionally distressing situations.
- To organise and provide chair-side nursing in orthodontic and oral surgery clinics.
- To act as a scrub nurse and assist with procedures under local anaesthetic, lasting up to an hour.
- To organise, prepare and assist with specialist clinics eg. Orthognatic, oncology, alveolar, cleft lip and palate.
- Provide care, under supervision for patients with appearance altering conditions such as Cleft palate, facial cancers and facial trauma.
- Prepare medical and orthodontic notes for clinics including obtaining investigation results from computerised systems eg MRI and CAT scans.
- Obtaining prostheses from the maxilla-facial laboratory.
- Responsible for recording and storage of patient study models of patients currently undergoing treatment
- Work on either site as the workload demands and on the instruction of the nurse in charge. Take on responsibility for personal development and support the development and supervision of others by developing and maintaining specialist knowledge of Therapy practice
- Conduct oneself in a professional manner and be a role model to less experiences/ non registered and new staff at all times
- Work proactively to ensure that every patient attendance meets the patient’s expectations and needs with timely undertaking of procedure and effective communication with relatives, patients and carers.

Qualification and Experience
Essential criteria
- Active registration with the GDC
- Evidence of ongoing professional development through the maintenance of professional portfolio and registration revalidation
- Experience of working in a dental environment
- Able to prioritise own workload and that of others as appropriate
- Demonstrates ability to maintain and contribute to the development of standards of practice, conduct or decision making in conjunction with team
- Act as a role model and are able to lead by example to ensure that trust values and behaviours are reinforced throughput their area of practice
- Enhanced levels of dexterity and accuracy pertaining to clinical skills
- Able to effectively and appropriately escalate concerns to reduce and promote patient safety
Desirable criteria
- Additional qualification in dental radiography, OHE or sedation
- Previous experience in Orthodontics

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
