A new and exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Learning Disabilities Specialist Screening Nurse had arisen within the Nursing, Therapies and Quality Team within Gloucestershire Health & Care NHSFT. We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated nurse to support adults with Learning Disabilities to access screening services across Gloucestershire including breast, cervical and bowel cancer screening as well as Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) screening. This will promote early identification and management of disease together with access to early interventions and treatment to improve outcomes. The post holder will work closely with our LDISS and IHOT teams, GP Surgeries, Hospitals, the Screening Programmes and third sector/advocacy organisations.

 You will be able to demonstrate that you are able to apply your nursing skills to a wide range of situations, working with a range of adults with a learning disability living within the community. There is an emphasis on the importance of clinical supervision and continued professional development, which we regard as a vital part of the delivery of care. You will be part of an innovative and dynamic team which utilises an evidence-based perspective. Well support and encourage you to develop specialist experience and expertise as appropriate.

·      To work autonomously, prioritise and organise workload with monthly supervision with line manager

·      Provide complex, highly specialist advice and support to other members of the multi disciplinary team.

·      To work directly with service users, families, carers and health professionals with accessing screening appointments and implementation of reasonable adjustments.

·      Provide specialist education and training around improving access to specialist screening services to health care professionals and service users.

·      To be responsible for identifying and reporting concerns regarding safeguarding.

·      To be responsible for the maintenance of accurate and comprehensive records, using clinical electronic systems in accordance with the service process, professional record keeping standards and data protection regulations.

·      Contribute to reporting to key stakeholders to ensure that any project work around improving access to specialist screening for people with LD is on track and to discuss any identified variance and challenges.

·      To participate in research/audit to ensure that practice is evidence-based, safe and current
