Part-time Ward Nurse, Band 5-  Day Surgery (30 hours a week)

We are looking for an  Band 5 Registered Nurse to join our friendly team at the Day Surgery Unit, Cirencester Treatment Centre working for Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This vacancy is for a registered nurse who either has experience in surgical nursing, or would like to learn. Cirencester Treatment Centre is situated within Cirencester Hospital and has one Day Surgery Theatre , a one bedded recovery area and a nurse led pre and post operative ward.

The Treatment Centre is open Monday to Friday from 07:30-19:00. Theatre sessions run from 09:00-17:00

We have a range of specialties including Orthopaedics and Oral Surgery.

We have an active Practice Development Team based at the acute hospital sites who support the training and induction of new members of staff and their development thereafter.

Main duties of the job

- Admission of patients prior to surgery.

- Caring for patients in the post-operative period including patient monitoring and pain control.

- Nurse led discharge including the provision of discharge advice and any follow up appointments.

- Ability to de-escalate and resolve complaints locally from patients, visitors and staff

- To liaise with the Senior Sister/Centre Manager and Band 6's to ensure a safe, efficient and well led service.

- Ensure personal and professional development is progressed through Individual Performance Development Review and PREP guidelines.

- Demonstrate understanding of research based practice, and participate as required in audit.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

- Registered Nurse

- IT skills e.g. Electronic Patient Systems

- Enhanced levels of dexterity and accuracy pertaining to clinical skills e.g. administration of intravenous injections, 

- Act as a resource for all staff disseminating clinical skills and knowledge.

- Demonstrate ability to assess patient condition and implement appropriate care, within the multidisciplinary team.

- To communicate effectively, especially where patient ability to do so is compromised.

- Ability to disseminate contentious and delicate information appropriately.

- To deliver safe care within a challenging and changing clinical environment, using equipment and resources safely and as appropriate.

- To administer medication and treatment within Procedure for the Ordering, Prescribing and Administration of Medication Guidelines.

- To deliver and receive information which may cause emotional distress to all parties.

- To adhere to all Trust policies and procedures and professional code of conduct.

- To input and retrieve patient and staff information from computer based systems.

- Maintain accurate and contemporaneous records.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NMC level 1 Registered Nurse
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching and Assessing in Practice or similar qualification
  • Current ILS Certificate
  • Evidence and practice of Clinical skills E.g. IV drug administration. Medicines Management

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Appropriate years experience post registration
  • Have excellent Communication and Interpersonal skills including a good command and understanding of English, punctuation and grammar. Flexible Team Worker with the ability to work under instruction and minimal supervision
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in surgical nursing.

Knowledge/ Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Able to recognise and manage effectively stress in self and others
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to de-escalate and resolve complaints locally from patients, visitors and staff
  • Have good IT skills including a working knowledge of EPR systems and digital rostering systems
